Default Color Question?

I have been perusing car ads now for about a month looking at C4's, 5's, and 6's. I've mostly concentrated on C5's. In my search for the perfect car I have uncovered some interesting finds and in the process have broadened my knowledge base substantially.

I found this car ad on CL, http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/1548416068.html , and have not seen one this color before. I immediately assumed it was electron blue at first glance, but right away knew that it was not available in 2000. I owned an 02’ EB vert. and am familiar with the availability of EB. I immediately went to the action center and looked it up. I found that this color was called “Bright Blue Exterior” paint code 23U. Electron Blue is 21U. I found that 851 were made and only 189 were FRC’s. I thought maybe it may have been the same color but with a different name, but the paint code verified the difference.

I know this is trivial information, but it was interesting to me because I’ve been partial to the blues since owning my EB vert. I thought I knew all the blues that were available over the years in the C5’s, but have found that I did not.

I would be curious to know if any members out there currently own one of these and what there experience has been with it. Post up some pictures if you can. I’d like to see some more of these. I’ve also added the link to the guy’s photo hosting site so that you can view his photos after the CL ad expires.

The only two blues offered from the factory in '00 were Nassau Blue Metallic (code 23U) and Navy Blue Metallic (Code 28U). Hard to tell from the pics, but that looks like Nassau Blue.

Too dark for Nassau, too light for Navy. I'm thinking it was repainted Electron.

I think it was repainted too. I did some more research at the action center. 23U is the code for Nassau Blue. I guess it was called Bright Blue in 2000, because Nassau is not listed in the paint colors for 2000. It is definitely closer to electron than Nassau.

FYI they have the color listed wrong at the action center. It was always called Nassau Blue.

I think your are correct. I too have not ever seen a "bright blue". I don't know how they could have made such a mistake on one of the all time classic colors like Nassau. That kind of bothers me that they would have made an error like that. It mostly bothers me because I reference this site on a very regular basis and want to be able to trust the info that is provided there. I know it's a subtle mistake, I just hope there isn't other pieces of bad info listed there.

FWIW, there was a Bright Blue offered in 1975-76.

1BAV - did you happen to call/email the guy to see if the car was repainted and/or what the paint code actually is?

No, I did not. I was kinda interested in the car at first, but became disinterested after looking at the pictures. The car didn't look to be in that great of condition. Wasn't that bad, but I am looking for something in better condition than this one appeared.

That's interesting that there was bright blue in 75' and 76'. I'm gonna look up the paint code for it.

Bright Blue IS a FACTORY description of Nassau Blue Metallic paint, here are the factory descriptions for 23U:

EXTERIOR COLOR,PRIMARY (23U)
EXTERIOR COLOR,PRIMARY,BRIGHT BLUE (23U)
EXTERIOR COLOR,PRIMARY,BRIGHT BLUE (23U)
EXTERIOR COLOR,PRIMARY,BRIGHT BLUE (23U)
EXTERIOR COLOR,PRIMARY,MEDIUM MAUI BLUE METALLIC (23U)

I found these on the factory "build sheet" by putting my VIN (1998 Nassau Blue) in the following website:

I can't name that color blue, but to me, It looks like a "Repaint" and of course then the question is 'Why' ? I love 'Nassau Blue' but for some reason this color to me is too dark, and before I bought it I'd want to know about the paint !

Yes
Yes we did
Yes we did
Yes we did
Yes we certainly did

Still doesn't explain why the color in the pix doesn't LOOK like Nassau/Bright/Maui Blue...

I'm thinking that the original color was Nassau and the car was repainted at Maaco or Earl Schibe. I think when you go to these places you don't get to use factory colors, you just pick the closest thing they have. Part of the reason for the low price. They only use limited colors bought in bulk I'm sure. JMO
