I am going to be buying new wheels for my 00 FRC in the next month or so. I am going 18x9.5 all around c6 z06 wheels, not that it matters, just fyi.
I am looking at 3 different compaines.
Gm
House of wheel reproductions
JW motoring repros
The price difference is pretty big between the repros and GM. These wheels WILL see some mtn. roads and HPDE's. But, I expect to have a set of track wheels for next year. So just to be safe, I will say they will do 6 HPDE's this year. I don't expect to make it to that many, but just being safe.
I know and expect the GM wheels to hold up. Will both of the repro's? Or is one better than the other?
And I understand that the GM wheels will be lighter, but I am NOT doing w/w racing. I am just going out and driving hard and fast in a safe manner. So the unspung weight means nothing to me at this point.
I did search and could not really come up with anything. From what I found both JW and HOW are good companies that have good customer service.
I cannot answer for any of the reproduction wheels, but the factory wheels will probably be a better choice.
A few things you may want to think about, one is the offset. The C6 wheels have a different offset the C5 wheels and also with the same size wheels on all four corners, you need to think about tire size. You don't want the same size front and rear, or you will get codes on the TC, ABS and I believe the AH.

And I understand about the offset.. they are c6z06 style in c5 fitment. I don't have AH and I am going to go 265/35 F and 285/53 R so there will be some difference in wheel size. But, there are MANY people running square setups with no issues on the track.

Ok, why do you suggest avioding repro? And I may end up with the 10.5 all around, but the rear tire I want is 285/35

Cost and running 19's means a lower profile tire. On the street & track, I would prefer a little more sidewall

A nice size tire for the rear would be 295/35x18 on the 10.5" wide wheel. That is OEM size on a C5 Z06
As for the repro wheels for HPDE, I frown upon them since they are made in China cast and they are brittle in comparision to a forged wheel. You will put extra lateral stress on your wheel at the track and the last thing you will want is a cast wheel to break. I have seen it happen, as a matter of fact it happened to a 911 Porsche that was just ahead of me (by maybe only 5-10 feet) as we went through a couple tight turns together. His left rear shattered as we were half way through a hard right hander, he went off to the left and I slid by his passenger side.
He was fortunate that there was very little damage and we were only going about 70 MPH and he was able to take the car out into the grass with very little damage.
That instance was lucky, BUT a broken wheel at other points of the track could be big trouble.
I have a set of repro wheels that I use for the street but use the OEM wheels at the track...
