Default Tracing Ownership (Help Needed)

I originally placed this request on the General C1 & C2 forum with no input.

I found my very first Corvette that I owned way back in 1964-1965. A
'64 Black, CV, 4spd. It has been restored & now resides in S. Florida.

Have been corresponding with the current owner, what a blast !

It is now titled in FL & we know it was titled in Indiana in at least 1964-1965. I lost contact then after I sold it in Indiana. It appears from "some parts & pieces" before the resto. that the '64 may have been in storage for some period of time. The current owner purchased it from an individual in S. Florida.

Would a title search accomplish much ? Would this search go to multiple states if that should be the case ?

Any suggestions anyone might have would be appreciated. Perhaps a member reading this has walked this mile ?

Many thanks......

I have always traced the ownership history on all of the older cars I've had through the years. I own a '32 Ford street rod which I traced all the way back to its original certificate of origin. But I was extremely lucky because it had always been a North Carolina car since new. It was even built at the now-defunct Charlotte, NC assembly plant.
But, anyway, the main place to start is with the DMV of the state the car is titled in. You should contact the Florida DMV first and see what they have in their records about the car. Many times if the car has come in from another state, the local DMV will indicate which state that was. If it does, then you should contact the DMV from that state and see what they have in their records on that particular car. If you can't find out which state the car came into Florida from, you should contact the DMV in Indiana and see what they have in their records. They may indicate which state it went to after Indiana. It's mostly just a game of elimination but a very rewarding game. I love knowing where all my cars have resided in their lives. It is amazing what you can uncover about a car from tracing its history. It is also a big plus when you sell your car to have all of that information.
Don't give up. It often takes a good while and you may reach many dead ends but keep plugging along. You'll figure it out.

Thanks for your thoughts, very interesting. I think the current owner is very interested in ownership lineage. Will see what happens. Thanks.

Probably defined as self-satisfaction.........
When information is uncovered after 44 years since ownership & info. has it the car may have been stored or raced...it really peaks the curiosity.........maybe not for everyone, huh....??

Still don't get it, it's not like trying to figure out your family heritage. It's a CAR, and not even a very interesting year. What if you find it sat in the woods for 20 years-would that excite you somehow?
