I was using Mobil 1 but just had oil changed this week and they did not have this one, so
I switched to K & N, did not know they're the same inside. Oil filters are like batteries,
a few makers making a bunch of licensed and private label brands. WIX, I hear is a good
one.
I used DELCO Premium UPF-44, then read here that they were restrictive. I changed to a WIX (same as NAPA GOLD) and my cold oil pressure increased 10-15 psi. Since the C5 oil pressure sensor is AFTER the oil filter, more pressure means more flow.
ET, an ex-GM C5 Engineer, said that the standard GM filter is all you need. GM did a 200,000 mile run using them.
I have seen where some people have scrapped a K&N filter, since the nut hangs down. It doesn't seem like you would want your oil filter to be the lowest point of your car, IMHO.

Mobil 1, K&N, AC/Delco, Wix, Napa Gold are all good.
So are Baldwin and Purolator PureOne.
But they are divided into two camps...that tend to be mutually exclusive...
those that flow better
those that filter better
You need to decide which you want.
I am almost positive that Mobil 1 and K&N are not identical inside...they may look similar but the filter media is different...The K&N is made to flow... The Mobil 1 is made to filter.

they did a study on all the filters by cutting them in half and looking at the filter it was clear that there all different inside and the best one was the mobile one with the ac delco second. but i use a fram because thats what walmart gives me!!
Honestly, when it comes to oil filters there are more good choices out there than bad ones, it all depends on how much you want to spend, and availability in your area. I'd have no problem running any of these filters (and have indeed used almost all of them in different cars over the years):
Wix
NAPA Gold
Carquest Premium
Purolator
Fram Extended Guard (this is what I'm using, it's much different than the cheaper Frams)
Mobil 1
K&N
AC Delco
Supertech (sold at Walmart only)
STP
Amsoil
Pennzoil (same as Purolator Classic)
Quaker State (also same as Purolator Classic)
