I've got about 550 hp to the wheels, and i'm looking to "help" keep everything together in the trans and diff. I'm going to put nittos on the rear and the car will 99% street driven (I may take it to the track once or twice just to see what it runs). Having said that will the factory parts hold up on the street? I was thinking of doing the trans/diff brace and running the nittos. Again what is the survival rate putting those tires on with a brace for the street??
They should last as long as you don't get hop or dump the clutch from 5k. But at that power level...anything can happen. Do you have a clutch? A good clutch will put more stress on the drivetrain.
I'm going the same route. 590 hp and going to Nitto's. But I have an RPM Lvl. III diff. that will go in, with a trans brace, before the Nitto's go on. I don't want to take the 1 in x chance, and end up bringing it home on the hook. My poor PS2's will have to fight for their lives 'til then.
should I do the diff brace and output shaft(s)?
Or is a full upgrade to the trans and diff in order??
I'm thinking on the street it shouldn't be that much an issue.
What is your traction like now?
The transmissions are known to hold a lot of horsepower it is the wheel hop/shock that snaps the output shaft. When the output shaft breaks it takes the rear with it. Wheel hop/shock is also what breaks the housing of both parts.
I guess it depends on your driving. In my opinion I don't see you having problems as long as you launch the car correctly. That brace will definitely help the situation. I am sure there are others that are more educated than me with the setup in these cars though. I haven't had enough experience with the tranny bolted up to an irs yet.
The stock tranny's mainshaft is good until about 450 RWHP after that it's a crap shoot.
Coil over set-up helps with wheel hop.
The braces help to keep everything from breaking due to the design of the independent transaxle.
Differentials are known to have weak inner axle shafts and should probably be upgraded.
You certainly don't want to find out the hard way, by breaking your tranny and differential casing and having to shell out some serious money to repair it.
