Default Clicking sound

hi
i have a clicking sound in front of motor at start up.
sounds like a couple of keys clicking together.
10,800 miles on motor.it goes away after it gets warm.
could it be regular oil, not synthetic???
motor sound good, runs nice and smooth.guages all normal

More than likely it is the Roller Rocker tapping thta you hear!

If it goes away once it is warmed up you'll be okay, it is from the lifter! It should be fine

You should be using a good Synthetic oil, try Mobile1 15W 50 - get rid of the "CRAP" conventional oil - this will mean when it is cold it will only be 15 weight and when it gets Hot it will be 50 weight It will really quiet it down - I promise

Just imagine that you have a Baseball at the Hotter 50 weight and when it is cold it shrinks to the size of a Pingpong ball thus being the 15 weight - that is how the ratings go (Simple Illustration)

If it was 0W 50, like the ENEOS oil from NIPPON (I am currently running) the the 0W would be like a Bee Bee then when it gets hot it goes to the baseball size -

Oil is designed this way, MULTI-Grade, so on start up you will not hurt the motor by having to push like COLD HONEY through your motor, it would be more like Soy Sauce at a 0W and 50W when it is hot

My guess is you are running, 5W 30, and if you go to the 15W50 Mobile1 you'll love it

Hope this helps, so get the junk breaking down conventional oil out of there, which breaks down and lubricates less and underperforms, Get your Synthetic oil in there soon!

Thanks,Matt

You're welcome

Make sure you let me know how it goes when you change it and remember to fill up the new oil filter with oil too, before install-

You should be fine with the Mobile1 15W50 - It gets below 32* here in Palmdale California and I never have had an issue with the 15W part of it

Thanks,Matt

Personally I think 15W50 is way to thick for up too -45 degrees. You might be asking for trouble there. Here in Ca., it probably won't hurt, but back there...I would not suggest it. Also, at your low mileage, the lifters should not have worn out. I wore out mine on my '99 at 274K miles but it wasn't till then that they started failing for real.

How long does the clicking last? It could be your AIR pump...
