Default CLB Kits

Any experience with the CLB kit from Adaptive Performance? It's about $10 cheaperr than the Corvettes of Houstyon version.

I would think that it's the same kit. I followed w/ what & where every one else here on tthe forum seem to be purchasing them from. This is one thing that I didn't want to have a problem with. You too may want to consider?

I was going to buy one of those, but it seemed like such a nightmare to install. I'm terrible with wires.

Why chance it over $10. The one you're talking about probably works, but is $10 worth the chance of getting stranded? I believe that if the CLB doesn't work, the car gets limited to an extremely low speed before shutting off. (Something like 7 or 2MPH)

It's a lot cheaper to pay for 1 hr labor at ($95-100) + $50 part for $150 total then to pay for towing and repair of the col. lock at the dealer. CL bypass must be installed prior to col. failure. My understanding is the dealer charges about 2 grand to fix the column lock and that it eventually will fail again. Get the col. lock bypass.

Right, and it's not at all a nightmare to install. Quite easy actually.

Is there any difference on the CLB install if the recall has been done previously?

I believe you'll want to undo the recall, because the harness installed from the recall could still fail and cause problems.
But the CLB itself is a piece of cake to install. Cheap insurance.

Buy the one from Corvettes of Houston...I didn't (bought somewhere else). Less than 3k miles later, it locked up.

The only good thing about it. It locked up at the dealer while in for service. And the car was still under warranty.

Recall doesn't resolve the issue.

I bought mine from Corvette's of Houston. It came with very clear directions. I'm not a wiring guy myself, either and even I managed to do it correctly.

Even if it's the same thing, the extra $10 you spend for the very clear set of directions is more than worth it, IMO.

Took me 10 minutes to install.

I'll add this...The kit I had gotten, didn't have the cig lighter...so I had to pull fuses and what not...reading directions multiple times to be certain what I was doing and didn't screw anything up...I was still in/out in 45 minutes. Going forward (ordered the Corvettes of Houston kit yesterday), I think I could be in/out in 20 minutes or less.

Good luck!

Yeah... The cig lighter thing didn't work for me, actually. I just turned the car to the on position, waited for it to disengage and then unplugged it and turned off the car.

Either way, it's a VERY simple install...

This stuff is about $2 of parts, it is very simple. I just ordered the $40 one, they have plenty of good reviews and they are the mfr.

I installed my CLB today, and it made the zzzz column sound when pluged it in, didn't even turn the key yet. Anyway, I can turn the wheel with the key out, so I guess that is the objective and it is working?

Yup, that's how it should work.

I used to have that annoying buzz every time i put the key in the car. Gone after i installed the bypass.
