So, I have a 2008 silverado and the recently purchased 2002 convertible. Note to self: The 02 does NOT have the automatic turn-off for the dome light like the silverado!!! Battery shopping will take place tomorrow.

At least you caught it early. I replaced 2 Optima Red Top batteries because I didn't realize my "dome" lights were left on, because I checked/ changed the batteries in the middle of the day. After the second change, it was turning dusk, and I thought, "man, it's awful light inside this car for being so dark outside... D'oh!"
Wait a minute... I thought the C-5 has an automatic circuit to kill the power to the lights and so on after about 10 minutes? My '99 did but truthfully I don't know about the inside lights. It would kill the radio and so on without a doubt.

Just looked in my owners manual for my '03 - it says it has battery run-down protection for the underhood lamps, vanity mirror lamps, cargo lamps, reading lamps, console or glove box lamps. It will automatically shut down after 15 minutes. To reset it, all of the above lamps must be turned off or the ignition key must be in the ON position.

Your's should have the same run-down protection.
If I leave the hood up, the hatch open or the door open, it DEFINITLY turns the lights off after a few mins.
Me too. Except, for me, I think it was one of the lights on the rear view mirror.
that's what happened to me also, felt really silly once i realized it. i was lucky and i got back to the car after a few hours and still had enough juice to get it to crank over and start. would have never figured it out if it happened during the day, lol!

My 02 lights go off after a length of time. When I put into storage in the winter, I leave the doors ajar, the rear hatch and the targa top to keep the seals from compressing. All the light go out.
