I own a C5 Corvette and had it in shop. Mechanic said it needed major complete tune-up. This is my first Corvette. Anybody know what's involved.

Really all you should need is to swap some fluids, change the air, fuel, spark plugs, pcv and GMPP wires and you're good to go. Should you need any parts, I'd be happy to ship them to you.
I would run as fast as I can from a guy like that!!!Throwing out vague terms like that sounds like a guy that sees a guy with a vette and thinks CHA-CHING!!!!NOTHING really "MAJOR" about a tune up on a vet!!!! DIY for maybe around $100 give or take. Mainly plugs and wires,,and a few fluids and filters IF the spirit moves you!!
Run, Forrester, Run.....
You tell mechanic you need plugs & wires, possibly an oil change.
How much? Not a major tune up....he's priming you for a MAJOR rip off.

Gene knows what he's talking about! And I'm sure lil vette is right. You need to boogie out of any place telling you a C5 needs a "major tune up". LSx motors don't need anything major until 150-200K miles. And at that point, it's just the timing chain.

It would be interesting to see what the mechanic considers a "major complete tuneup". How about asking him for a detailed estimate and then post it on here so we all can see "major". Thanks..

that being said, how long have you dealt with this "mechanic"? is he a dealership mechanic?,if so run. my experience with dealers is not the best, and in this economy everyone is looking for a reason to make a quick buck. now if you have known this guy for a while and trust him, ask him to explain just what a "major tune up" is, but my bet would say if you did know him, he would have explained better on his own without you prompting.
if you can turn a wrench, follow instructions, and need some really good detailed pictures you dont need a mechanic........you have this forum!! i got my vette in nov 2009 and have done all that i think needs to be done by the help of everyone here....and i know it was done right!

Points, plugs, distributor cap?
I would not use a mechanic who still refers to a modern car needing a "tune up". Best to find a different mechanic that will like said in previous posts give you a detailed list of what needs to be replaced. Then search on here for DYI’s. A lot of the maintenance on these cars is pretty easy to do. Good luck.
