Default C5 Z51 question

Is there an easy way to tell if a 2002 has z51 performance package just by looking at it?

For example, the C6 Z51 has the cross-drilled rotors, so it's very easy to tell (of course, unless someone upgraded the brakes)

Thanks

I believe if you open the hood you will see a steering cooler, Also it will be listed in the glove box as Z51 on the options list.

Easiest way is just to look at the option list inside the glove box lid.

yup, RPO code in the glove compartment. All FRC's were Z51's, and sway bars were thicker diameter front and rear. You probably cannot tell the springs were stiffer by looking at them.

That's how I found out! That and a really well executed S curve!

Non Z51 equipped cars also have P/S "cooler" but it's just a "U" shaped smooth tube. The Z51 version has the same tube except it has all the cooling fins on it.

I will try.
If an automatic you will have the 3.15 gears.
You will have a PS cooler with the fins.
A bit stiffer springs.
Larger sway bars.
Not sure on the shocks.

I'd like to know too. Am pretty sure it is a total performance package that goes beyond a stiff suspension. Whatever it is, my car rides on rails and stops real quick.

Everything I've seen says springs, stabilizer bars and PS cooler. Auto cars also required the performance rear end.

Great info. Thought brakes were part of the package but guess not.

The brakes on all C5s are the same I believe, On the C6 the Z51 did have drilled rotors.

You can always just try to stay with one in the turns.

That should give you a pretty good handle on it.

The shocks were Z51 specific too.

I stumbled on an article a while back where a magazine did a comparison of the stock suspension vs Z51 vs Z06. They swapped out parts on the stock suspension and recorded G numbers for each modification on a skid pad.

Thought I had saved it but can't find it now.
