If your car is stolen and it has Lojack , recovery using Lojack will depend on your police departments Lojack recovery equiped cars. If your dept, has only one car and it's not in use at the time your car is reported stolen then it will do no good. If the dept. has lots of Lojacked recovery cars then your odds are higher.
You can tell if your local police have lojack recovery units in their cars by looking at the antenna's on the car. There should be 4 antenna's mounted in a square configuration on the roof or the trunk along with the many other antenna's.

All the ones weve had tested worked just fine. I have it on my car and feel good about it! If you have more questions, PM me and Ill do all I can to help you.
Just remember all you have to do when the car is stolen is call the police and report it stolen. Tell them u have lojack and they will have it activated!

WOW Matt:
You are the perfect person to have replied to my concerns. Thank you so much.
I will just leave everything alone then for now (stll recouping from Christmas and the Vette Purchase) I'm glad I can divert my funds to something that needs more attention than just throwing money to the wind if I really don't need to have it in my name.
I found a lojack in my car and ripped it out not knowing what it was. I looked up the FCCID# I found on it and discovered it was a lojack. I have no plans on re-installing it im the Vette. With the PASS security built into the chip in the key, I'm not really worried about someone stealing the whole car. Sure, maybe it could happen, but it's insured. I'm far more worried about the stereo getting stolen. Can I put a lojack on that?

Don't fool yourself. LoJack will NOT prevent your car from being stolen. It does however increase the odds that your car will be recovered.
What I've noticed lately is that people no longer break into your car while it's parked in front of your house to steal the stereo. Instead, they steal the whole car and then take out the stereo, seats, glass, etc...at their leisure.
Not in my neighborhood... They broke in to my roommate's Viper truck and stole the stereo in the middle of the day while we were home. Right in front of my house. Same story at his last place. I have the protection of a garage now, but before that I could never go longer than about 6 months before someone would jack my stereo.
I'm not saying lojack is a bad thing, and I certainly would have re-installed it if it weren't for the PASS key feature.
I install these..... Much cheaper for the amount of options available and you can track them with any computer that can get online. Also nice if you have Children that drive to monitor where and how fast they go. IMHO much better than LoJack since you can monitor these 24/7. I have installed these units from 2 door Econoboxes to fleets of Cemi Trucks and Delivery Vehicles, these are not just for large companies.

Could you PM me with the location you found your loJack was installed? I'm sure each installer could use different locations but your location might help me to find mine.

Why PM ? - Let us all in on this secret where you found your Lo Jack installed.
We had Lojack tracking devices intalled in our squad cars for about 6 years. Lojack provides and installs them for free to law enforcement and uses it as a selling point. During the time we had them, we never recovered a single stolen vehicle. If you live in a large city or a high crime area it might be worth it, but otherwise I'd say forget it.
I'm a little familiar with LOJACK (retired LE). In the event of a theft, the owner calls the PD and (if) the PD has receivers to track the vehicle, they'll receive the signal from the transmitter within the vehicle. The owner cannot do it himself. In that way, it operates somewhat like ONSTAR. Not all police agencies have the LOJACK receivers in field units.
1) Is there a way I can get around this service charge ? I doubt it if you want the service restored.
2) If my car is stolen, what do I tell a police officer in order for him to track my vehicle ? If you're a subscriber to LOJACK, you tell the officer that and the dispatcher will contact the company initiating the procedure. How does he know my Lo jack unit from my License Plate number ? He doesn't. It's the VIN/registered owner/subscriber of the vehicle that's important to the company.
3) Can a Police officer check somehow if my Lo Jack is working ? I know the company will verify it's working. An officer would know if his unit has the receiver and if the company sends the signal to the receiver.
4) Does anyone here have experience with Lo Jacks and how they work ? That's why I referred you to the website.
5) Where would this normally be located on the car ? Unless things have changed, the installation location isn't usually divulged even to the owner. It's concealed within the car for a reason.
6) Does this unit actually have to be registered in my name as lo Jack wants a fee to do so ? Won't it work without it being registered in my name. It just sounds like a scam to get me to give them money un-necessarily.That's a decision you have to make as the new owner. If you buy a used vehicle with ONSTAR, you also have to have the subscription transferred to you. You're paying for a service.
QUOTE from the website link...
THE ONLY STOLEN VEHICLE RECOVERY SYSTEM OPERATED BY THE POLICE
Through a highly successful public-private partnership with law enforcement agencies around the country and throughout the world, LoJack is the only provider of stolen vehicle recovery systems that are directly connected to state crime computers, making it extremely effective in combating vehicle theft.
LoJack uses a proven and proprietary technology operating on a Radio Frequency allocated by the FCC exclusively for the recovery of stolen vehicles. When a LoJack-equipped vehicle is stolen, the vehicle’s owner alerts local law enforcement. Once officers complete this routine report, a silent signal is automatically sent out that activates the LoJack transmitter hidden in the stolen vehicle. Using special tracking technology donated by LoJack for squad cars and aviation units, police officers can quickly track and recover the vehicle, often apprehending the thieves and recovering additional stolen vehicles in the process.
Do you have the Lojack FOB? If not then the system is useless.

It was under the fuse box in the passenger floor. All I could see of it was the power wires, so I dug it out wanting to know what it was. Couldn't figure it out so I removed it. It was occupying the spot I wanted to put my Sirius receiver.

FOB ?????
My LoJack Certificate does not indicate that it has the Starter Disabler or the Alarm With Starter Disabler (those boxes are not checked) - It just indicates that the Lo Jack Recovery System is installed.

How much of a discount? I'm with Mercury and could use a discount. Every six months the premium creeps up a few bucks while the value of what they insure is creeping down.

Allstate told me a LoJack will get me a 5% reduction on comprehensive - WOW - When the agent told me this she started laughing and said this is going to make your day - It will come to about $2.00 and some change for six months - Thats a TWO DOLLAR and some cents discount for six months (not two dollars a month).
So why put it in my name for $80 ? Lojack tried to talk me into paying $80 by saying I will get an insurance discount if it is in my name - but they said the unit will work even if it is not in my name as many on this thread have said also.
