Is there any tips on getting my 2002 Z06 to have a smoother shift in all gears. I was driving a friends 2008 Z06 and it shifts so much better than my car has ever shifted. I have the stock shifter and my car is like new with 3800 miles on it.

Call Gene Culley at GM Parts House and order a 2008 or later C6 Z06 shifter (get the whole kit with shift **** and associated bolts) and other parts.

There are options and the C6 shift arm assembly is one ( note that I did not say post 2008 C6 Z06 shifter assembly as the only differences between the OEM C5 Z06 are the two horizonal mount bushings which you will find on the 2005- 2008Z06( rubber vs. C5Z06 hard plastic) , the canted shift arm ( C6 shift arm attachment) and shift *****. The C6 shifter arm and shift **** are ergonomically altered which affords an approx 10% shortened throw.

Yes, the 2008 and up is a different transmission with numerous improvements. I tried a friends 08Z with MGW shifter and it was really a nice improvement over my C5Z with MGW.

I bought the C6 shifter from Gene @ GM Parts House and I'm very happy. There are a number of good shifters on the market so by no means am I'm saying the C6 shifter is the best, all I'm saying is that I'm very happy with mine. Here's a pic:
