Hello,
My 99 is showing it's age.:o
When I run the blower with the A/C or Heat or whatever it does not seem to be 'blowing' at speed #1. #2-4 are OK but seem slow? And #5 one would think it would blow very high, but doesn't.
My question: is this something I can change out myself? I have done it on a 79 and on other vehicles and trucks. But that was a while ago. Back when a backyard(shade tree) mechanic could do stuff. Now with all the modern technologies and stuff I don't think I could be called a 'shade bush' mechanic.
What do you think?
Thanks

It's pretty easy. Just take tome glucosomine chondroitin for some flexibility a half hour before you start. Take out he passenger side seat if your a big guy. Have a shot of your fave poison if you're cluster phobic. I did it on my '01Z and it was tight. I'm 6'3" and 223lbs.
Once out, if you got a compressor, put on a dust mask and goggles. Blow out the motor. The brushes are probably almost gone. I don't know if they are serviceable. Spray some silicone spray on the bearings with the straw. Connect it to your battery and see if it spins fast before and after the maintenance. Hopefully that's all it is. Might need to clean the grounds in the panel of the passenger side door.
I pulled mine out in about 10 minutes and the brushes were shot. Beware if you need to replace it, there are 2 different types, one for auto and one for manual climate control. I am also having a hard time locating a Delphi OEM replacement, they appear to be out of stock everywhere I check.
If I understand the two replies:
1. The access to the blower motor is inside the vehicle not outside.
2. It's on the passenger side and I am assuming behind the glove box?
So do I need to remove the glove box container?
I'm 6'3" and 200 lbs and 63years old.....so I take your suggestions seriously: glucosomine and the other stuff.

Picked a new fan blower motor assy ($40) in stock and a heater resistor module for an auto dual zone ($140) from NAPA, module was special order and took about a week for delivery.
My fan blower motor was completely shot and rusted. Not a hard fix if you remove the passenger seat in order to have room to manuever on your back. It took about 2 1/2 hours to R/R but be patient it's a pretty tight down there.

It's under the dash on the passenger side. The wires coming out are on the side you can't get to unless you drop the part down first. Once down, you can flip it over and it's ever so slightly easier to get a pocket screw driver in and release the catch. Be patient or you'll break it.
1. Have a shot/beer. Disconnect the ground from the battery.
2. Pull the passenger seat out, have another beer/shot.
3. Put your drop light under dash before you crawl in there.
4. Unbolt the fan motor
5. Pull the plug.
It's that easy, but pulling the plug might be the hardest part. Once your lubed up on sauce, shouldn't get too frustrated to keep trying on that plug.
As soon as it warms up a bit more here in Florida I'll get started.
Thanks for the suggestions.
The glove box(the box itself), how did you remove it?
Sometimes I need a little more explanation. The person gave instructions but I just need a little more step by step.
Like I said maybe I don't qualify to being even called a 'shade bush' anymore.

Don't know why you want to remove the glove box as the blower motor is under-neath of the glove box.
The bottom filler panel is held in place by two large plastic pins that just pop out.
Mine just started acting up making noise. It blows air fine and heat and ac are there. Just noisy. Sounds like cards in the spokes of a bicycle! lol
Anybody have a link to a DIY for removal or pictures as to where exactly this is? I have a 2002 6 speed with auto dual zone climate control. Is it behind the panel at the footwell or up under the dash? Pictures would be great guys! Thanks...sorry for being a pain.

It's behind the glove box. It's just above the fuse box. If you did one on the '79 you'll know it when you see it. Motor hangs down, squirrel cage goes into the duct work under the dash.
