Does anyone have advice/information on shipping a Corvette 500 – 1000 miles? I live in Indiana and I am looking to purchase a Corvette. However, my efforts to find what I want locally, at this time are very limited to nonexistent. Thus my problem, I find Corvettes 500-1000 miles away that seem acceptable but I do not want to go and pick one up and drive it home. (Been there and done that)
I do plan on contracting with a Certified Mechanic in whatever area that I do find a Corvette to certify its condition. However, I do need information/advice on shipping. Please include any horror stories you may have encountered, they sometime help the most.
Picking up a Corvette 500-1000 miles from home is simply a weekend joy ride. I live in Iowa and went to Houston, TX to pick up my C5. The drive home is one of the highlights of my car owning experiences and I've owned over 75 cars in my lifetime. GO GET IT, you won't regtet it!
I had a bad experience when I shipped a car from CA to MA back in 2001, they were 2 weeks over their delivery date, damaged my car and rode my clutch (could smell that clutch burning smell). The company didn't care and would have held my car hostage if not paid in full. I went to make a complain on the Better Business Bureau website and found out that they had many complaints against them unanswered.
What I wish I had known and will recommend to you is check any transportation company out on the BBB site before hiring them, if they have a lot of complaints against them, avoid that company.
Exotic Car is top notch. I also believe Autobuffs uses Fedex Transport or something like that. PM John and talk to him. But really 500-1000 miles is nothing.

90% of our customers who ship us their cars for work to be done are thousands of miles away and ship them via FedEx transport. This in my eyes is the best and safest transport company around and we have never had a problem or any damage from them...

These guys (Western) did an A-1 job for me (Minn. to Socal).
Whatever you decide, don't make your choice until you've talked with a few carriers. There are a lot of good ones but they don't all charge the same so check 'em out.

Thank you.
Try this company http://www.reliable-carriers.com/default.cfm They are the best auto movers in the country. They will take care of your Vette trust me, I've seen it many times with them. They move all of GM's concept vehicles auto show vechicles and on an on, very good!!!
I agree with the previous posts that I would drive it that distance. I would also go with the recommendations from the people on this forum as they are particular about their cars.
Last, whatever carrier you use, it is preferable that they represent that your car will be shipped point to point and not transferred from one carrier to another. In addition, a closed carrier as pictured is preferable and when using a two tier carrier, verts must go on top.
Personally I would avoid the hassle and drive it. Good luck.
