Default problems with C5 targas?

I have been trying to find searches for info on targa tops on C5s and haven't found much, so if they're out there--sorry for asking again. I am looking at buying a 2000 Corvette and would like input from those owners who have targas vs those who have hardtops. Do the C5 targas have the leaking and/or noise problems the C6s have? Are there strong reasons to avoid the targa top in C5s? Thanks for your help.

I have a 2000 coupe and I don't have any porblems with mine. How ever I don't normally drive in the rain. I haven't heard of any problems on the C5s.

Like anything with weather striping it can go bad over time and leak. But no there aren't any problems with C5 targas like C6 targas.

I've got an 01 coupe and no problems with the targa, although weatherstripping is still in primo condition. I think you need to decide if you want "open air" crusing or not, then go and tryout removing one and see if it suits you.
Good Luck

My 99 leaks a little. I probably could use some new weatherstrip and adjusting, but it doesn't bother me enough since I rarely drive it in the rain.

I wouldn't let that stop you from buying one though.

Mine doesn't rattle.

I have a 2000 with a targa. I get a little wind noise from the passenger side and it leaks a little. It's nothing unbearable. There are adjustments you can make to remedy that stuff too.

Nope. No problems with the targa on either my C5 or C6. If you take the top off care must be taken when re-installing to make sure everything is lined up correctly with the weather stripping. Easy to re-install incorrectly which will get you wind noise and/or leaks if it rains (oh...you won't drive it in the rain?). If you get one with both tops (smoked and painted) get a "bag" to put the un-used top for storage. Many vette vendors sell vinyl-leather bags for the top for about $60.

Love the targa If you were to have leak problems they wouldnt be from the targa anyway, if present they are usualy at the rear corners of where the windows meet the top and are the same on targa or vert (can be fixed with widow tip in adjustment).

Dont see us using a full vert that often, so went with the targa. Very quick change (like 30 secs) from targa on to off and stowed (although the vert goes down and stows fast also). Like the way the car looks with the top on (or off) more than the vert (IMO). No noise problems (wind, rattles), just works good for me.

Good luck.

I love my Targa, its the best of both worlds, I have a 2000 and have had no problems with leaking, I have driven in the rain with no problems. I love the way the car looks with the top off. Good luck and hope you get one.

They work great. Just remember to latch it in place.

Mine does leak in a heavy down poor but I just need to replace the weather stripping.
