Sounds like we need to re-negotiate our trade agreements. I'm sure the import taxes from Norway are nothing like this. That's what is wrong with America's economy. No one else can afford to buy American cars or products.

but back to topic. is there any drawback to importing a 97 modell instead of one that is a couple of years newer?.
i mean if the car has 30000miles on it a 97 model should be just as good as a 98 or 99 right?

Like you mentioned... crazy taxes on pretty much everything, not just a new corvette. I wouldn't put up with that- I hate paying my car insurance! never mind a billion dollars in taxes...
And, I'm sure your family would be convinced to move if they DROVE a newer vette

You wouldn't notice a difference bettween a 97 or a 98. From what I understand 97's seem just as reliable as later model C5's.

All of the major changes/refinements did not take place until 2001. Although each year after the 97, there were some changes each year that added some refinements. I guess based on that tax you have, If you can find a low mileage 97 then go for it.
