The wife wants 'Lambo' style door for her torch red 2000 FRC (her sister had her 2005 C6 doors done). God forgive me but after 30 years of marriage I just do what I'm told. I've also have this thread in the Z06 topic sections as it is
specific to the C5 hardtop.
So , if you have some experience with a particular brand , with operation and /or installation I'd appreciate the input. I've read the CF archive threads and posts and was surprised that the majority of responces were positive. But I'm looking for the latest designs / changes / revisions for established brands ( Verticle Door, Factory GT, Dream Car, ect) and if for the latest brands companies.
I've seen Vertical Door, Inc in operation and the hinge assembly looks really HD, but the gas ram has some negative history. It would be BAD if the wife couldn't get out / or worse she had to slide out the window because a door would not open down the road sometime.:~}
Anyone have pro and cons on any particular brands?
thanks, DD

Already got some really good feedback and information ( video) from 20Vette0107fatboy ( CF member Dan) about Dream Car lambo door kits. This link (EBAY) has a segmented 45 minute video of components, construction, assy function, installation and tips to speed adjustment. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CORVE...Q5fAccessories
Thanks Dan. DD

AGREE THE BEST!!!!!!!! I researched these foreverrrrrrrrrr....and this one by far is the very best...watch the videos....I bought it and its spectacular....no cutting of wires..nothing....true bolt on.......It IS bit pricey....but no doubt the best kit to use!
don't know about particular "brands" but i do remember reading that some kits require fender modification of some sort (probably in addition to other mods, lol). you might want to ask about that when you inquire brand to brand.
but i do remember reading that some kits require fender modification of some sort (probably in addition to other mods, lol).
Every kit besides the Dream Car one requires the inner fender to be trimmed and modified... I have not seen another kit that doesn't require the fender to be shaved, beside the Dream Car... Not that shaving is a real complicated task or what not but it's still something many will hesitate to do, and certainly adds to the potential for a harder and longer install...
After tons of research I have to say the Dream Car solution is IMO the best engineered one out there... I'm not going to flat out state it's "the best" as many of the other options certainly work, and do the job as well, so there is nothing wrong with them... I just feel the Dream Car one shines above all in overall engineering...
Quick question - Do you know why they are called Lambo Doors?
They are actually called vertical doors as opposed to horizontal doors... People call them 'lambo' doors because they were popularized on "Lambos"... Same reason people call tissue paper -> Kleenex, or cola (soda) -> Coke...
If they don't float your boat then fine don't do it, there are 1001 'mods' on this site alone that people do to Vette's that I think look god awful but I don't rag on them...
Next thing you will be telling me is to rip the 'diesel' fuel injection out of the Vette because that belongs on 'diesel' engines only, or maybe it's airplane injection and only belongs on airplanes? Different strokes for different folks...
I really hate hearing that done to a FRC. A 'vert would be OK, I guess if you like that stuff. Totally understand about what the wifey wants, wifey gets. Cheaper than buying her a new C6, and then you'd still need to put the damn doors on!
I have GT Factory and if you can find them I would recommend them. I have had no issues with my kit. They come with 2 150lb support shocks for each side. I decided to change one of them to a 90lb and they go up and down with ease and no issues for my wife.
here is a pic for the lambo door haters as well and you can give her an idea of what they look like on Torch Red
Watching the 45 minute video, no special installation tools or skills needed. If you have ever adjusted a car door , you have the skill to install the Dream Car kit. My guess as to time ,ummm 3 to 6 hours max.
Hate to say it Dude but in IMHO Lambos only look good on Lambos.
I said " God forgive me"....! I also made it quite clear that this is the wife's choice not mine. You argue with her and her sister , I'm too tired after 30 plus years of marriage
