I posted this question in the C5 General section but the question is specific to the hardtop. Anyway, the wife thinks she wants 'Lambo' style operating doors on her torch red 2000 FRC (since her sister got her 2005 C6 doors 'Lambo'd'). So , God forgive me , but after 30 plus years of marriage I just do what I'm told ( easier on me ).
I have read the archive threads and posted responces , which were generally better , well more positive responces for Verticle Door, Dream Car and Factory GT, but looking now for possible newer designs/revisions or brands and longer term operation experinces.
So the question is for those that have personal experience , pro or con with a particular brand. Operation and installation are the obvious areas of concern . I have seen the Vertical Door , Inc operation and the the design & construction appears smooth and straight forward ( the door rams have some negative history). But if you have pros and cons on any particular 'Lambo' door brand I would appreciate your input. (I won't consider cutting to fit or anything that would keep from returning the stock OEM hinges).
thanks, DD

I wish you the best... I do have some (indirect) product experience to share with you.
I will say that working at a Corvette only dealership (125+ in stock at any point from the 50's forward) that we've had about 4 'Vettes come through to sell or possibly consign with lambo doors...
Not one of the "lambo" doors had a stable feeling when wiggled in it's open state. Also, there were issues of the doors finding "home" hitting the door strikers correctly for lockup. They were chintzy feeling, like a gimmick.
I don't know the brands of those various doors, but I can say compared to the real Lambo Murc from Jermaine Dupre (Janet Jackson's ex-common law husband) that visited one day looking at classics...the "Corvette lambo doors" were a flimsy joke.
I'm not saying to argue with your wife, I'm just saying that perhaps you need to find a car in your area to inspect before you buy the hinges only to sell the whole system a few months later after the burning of cash has already been done.
Howdy Joshua ( thats my nephew's name , he is the youngest policeman on the Oakland PD).
Anyway , yes this was a concern with early lambo hinge designs ( so I'm told) But the Dream Car design addresses this issue of wooble as extended and securing the bottom of the door when closed ( so as to not allow wind noise, ect.
Please watch the 45 minute video'. I'm a retired journeyman machinist , certified welder , mechanical engineer and fabricator and I was impressed with this design and construction. :http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CORVE...Q5fAccessories
The designer of the Dream Car Lambo style door hinge kit has taken a different approach and simulates the same hinge locations as GM OEM. I was impressed. As I stated in my #1 post my position on requirements and the door wiring is one of them for sure.
The dual hydraulic rams (mfg'ered in the USA) was another plus. in the video the designer guides you thru components and makes note that there are no China made parts or fabrication
The search and research continues but the Dream Car design requires no modifications at all, no cutting and one person and a helper ( i have a door fixture to hold the door when doing alignments so one person can accomplish this task in 3 to 6 hours .)
This Torch Red is almost idenical to the wife's FRC (my 2001 Z06 Alcoa and OEM Z rear brake ducks). So this is the 'look' she wants.

Reason: add Dream Car Z06 photo
i understand how everyone says "it's your car and you can do what you want to it" and in every case other than this i would agree. this has got to be the worst, most tacky ricer mod available for the corvette. I saw a guy with these at a car show i went to last week and i couldn't help but think to myself, dude you look like a ****ing moron pulling your door down then pulling it in while it reminds you that it's actually a regular door that you wasted money on trying to pull poon-tang 30 years younger than you. but hey good for him as he drove away bumping some washed up rock with his neon undercarriage lights and stock car that is wondering why it's a sports car that is being treated like a neon.... im sorry for ranting lol
This is my thread..... what is the focus to your post , to persuade my wife not to have what makes her happy or to make me aware of the possibility that my 55 y/o wife is out there trying to entice men by drawing attention to herself with a flambouant set of door on her FRC? Best that you wait to be asked for an opinion on cosmetics or the possible moral issues.
This picture I posted already shows me how ridiculous these lambo doors CAN look. This car is ridiculous even without the vertical doors was my point. But this woman ( I assume that the owner is a woman) still loves this car and I can say with some certainty that it makes her happy. That is what my thread is all about . No where have I asked for personal cosmetic opinions or critique.

Be a rebel do suicide doors!! That ish is so OG !!! woot woot
Yes , and suicide doors on sports cars has precedents besides. I like that idea , but how practical maybe another story as with the vertical doors. ( I refuse to use the word 'lambo' any longer). Vertical doors would apparently be very practical in parking situations .
