This is perhaps a dumb question. I am replacing my headlights again with Silverstars. I have a unused bulb that has been inside my car unopened for at least a couple years. Will it be ok to use this one and expect it to equal the brightness and length of service of the new ones I'm buying?
Thanks.
Well bulbs don't go bad just sitting somewhere unused. I switched my car over to Syvania SilverStars 9006 and the SilverStar Ultras in the 9005 highbeams. Can't really say that their brighter, I haven't dorve it at night since winter set in. But come the spring I'll have a better chance to see if there's any difference.
I got a deal on some Silverstar Ultras and just changed them last week. I've got skinny arms and hands but it's a PITA to swap them out. I just changed the low beams, they
look a lot whiter in my garage but it will be a couple of months before I can tell if it was worth the effort.
I put Silverstar Ultras in both the low and high beams. They work great. They are a bunch better than the ones that were in there. Now I can see at night.
Go one step further, put 9005's in the low and high beam sockets. With very little mod to the BULB, you can have the higher wattage silverstars in both holes. Lots of light, no issues with oncoming cars.

Do a search for the 9005 mod.
Good Luck
You could just swap out the metal bulb mounts on the reflector assembly. Highs for lows and vise versa
