hey guys, just purchased my first corvette and i must say i'm loving it, but i want to get it lowered. i have 18s f, 20s r. on the back i have a four finger gap, front three fingers, way to much gap for my taste. so i'm thinking of lowering it on stock bolts. my goal is to have a one finger gap, do any of you have a similar set up and how do you like the ride. if any of you have pics with this set up pls post em so i can check it out, thx
You won't get down to 1 finger on stock bolts but go ahead and lower it all the way on the stock bolts fist and see if that is enough. If not, there are multiple lowering kits that are pretty affordable. I think C6 bolts and the Zip lowering kit are the most popular.
Do a search on here for "lowered" and you will find TONS of pics and information.
I would love to lower my car but I don't want to give up the perfect ride it has from the factory. Mine is a DD and I would prefer not to have a harsh ride.
Oh and after you lower it give a couple hundred miles to settle and then get it aligned so you don't wear out your expensive tires prematurely.
Just be sure you will be happy creeping around the streets like a nuetered race horse.
I am surprised that so many people buying a $50k plus car spend so much time cramming fingers between their tires and wheels, but to each his own. Some people really like the "broken shocks" look? These cars are already belly draggers on the street - if you really cannot live with the body/tire gap, then you should buy new body panels that change the gap perimeter - not drop the whole car on its ***. Of course, one reason this is a popular mod is that it is "free" (at least until you have to replace an oil pan).
I have a 2 finger gap on mine. I think certain wheel/tire packages almost force you to lower it to make it look right. I lowered mine after I got 19" CCWs - I think it looks much better lowered a bit with that setup.
i am new to the vette world, just had my car just a few days mine is lowered, and it is more than low enough, here is a pic and it drags on everything it seems
i dont know how much is left to lower it, but i think im gonna have to move it up a bit
as you can see, i have about as much clearance as my lawnboy in the pic
I waited about two years before I lowered mine on the stock bolts as I did not want to affect the ride and be worried about scraping on every speed bump and steep incline. Once I put on my new tires and wheels I decided to go ahead and lower it on the stock bolts - the car does look much better but it did alter the ride a bit and I do scrape the hinged wind deflector a good bit more as well. The thing is, I always went over speed bumps and such very slow before, and if I take them at a bit of an angle I can avoid scraping most of the time now as well. The car still rides very smooth but I also feel more feedback from the bumps and potholes in the road. Overall I am pleased enough with the look being so much better that I am willing to sacrifice what I consider a minor change in the ride.
Lower it on the stock bolts (very easy to do) and then if you do not like it you can always take it back to stock ride height.
