Default Love/hate?

I know I can't be alone on this one. Love the ride, LOVE it. Makes me giddy just looking at it. So glad I took the plunge and stopped hemming and hawing about buying one. I find myself taking peeks at it in the garage all the time, saying under my breath, "Hello, lover..." . I get a serious perma-smile when driving it. Yet, at times, I hate it. I read about this mod or that mod, an improvement here or there on the forum, and how much a fellow 'vette brother loves it. I then begin the research process, seeing what's involved. I reeeeeally want to pursue the change at that point. But then I'm like, "Whoa, hold on. Does going a little faster mean that much?" Or I think "That looks awesome, but is it worth the cash?" Honestly, the car right out of the gate has more power than any of us can actually use. Yet what almost feels like a need to upgrade this part or that part seems too strong to ignore. Damn this mod bug. Is there not vaccine that can cure it????

It's too late when you are already thinking and talking about it. Maybe join the NCRS and hang out with the hard-core bunch. Here you go:

You're partly to blame, son. I unearthed your NXT Step exhaust thread, and damned if I wasn't out in the garage soon after, poking around, thinking, "Hmmmm. For that much, I think I'd like to slap that sucker on there."

Yeah they are great stock, but once you put some more power to at you want to keep going. I was the same way I did a CAI and exhaust, then came a headers and X-Pipe, then the big cam went in, now im waiting on my FAST 92 to go along with my TPIS TB. A set of heads are next on my list. Good luck........just give in its worth it

I never think of "hate" and "corvette" in the same sentence or at the same time!! The mod bug grabs almost everyone, I have done very little on my second vette. K&N air filter in the stock air box, and an exhaust enhancement plate.

Yep,,I got a vaccine a few years ago!! It acts kinda like a flu shot,,you might get sick,,bu ti's not fatal. I bought an old rundown house to rehab!! It sucks up ALL your discretionary income,,then you have no money to spend on mods!! Hopefully when it's done and sold,,I'll have a little play around money!! Maybe by then I'll have a coherent plan!!

Just give into the mod bug and don't look back. Then you won't have the internal conflict.

I went radical on my first Corvette (a 1972) - ended up dumping 6 times the cost of the original car (new) in it, not to mention over 2 years of labor (every day). I wanted the baddest looking and most powerful car on the street out here... and I got my wish... be careful what you wish for! I created a monster trying to impress strangers that was way too radical to use as a DD - so my masterpiece only came out on the street two days a year for the next 10 years! I am guessing about $1500 per joy ride!

All my Corvettes since - "I" enjoyed (left the drivetrains stock) and as far as power, the C5 has plenty for me on the street. My first Corvette could not be loud enough or fast enough - I guess most people have to go through that (I did) and from what I have seen some never get out of that mode. Not once since I have had my C5 have I ever thought "What a let down, this thing is just too slow". I am too concerned with "Why is my Oil Pressure gauge pegged?", "Wonder why my voltage shows 11 volts, but the car is running fine?", "How can I have a range of 25 miles left on 3/4 of a tank?"... plenty of ongoing mysteries to solve.

When I got my C5 I was vaccinated already -- it came with aftermarket wheels I liked, slightly upgraded interior, Corsa Pace Car catback, Callaway Honker and tune. That's like $3K worth of mods already paid for!

But, I had a very minor relapse -- I began to feel the bug and installed a Hurst shifter I picked up here on the Forum. Then, however, I got a booster shot -- lost my job.

No mod fever here

I know what you mean I am in the same boat sometimes on mods. As far as power well to be honest a "stock" corvette at least to me isn't all that fast. Hell a stock STi pulls down mid to low 13's in the quarter and handles just as well. Yoo just gotta figure out what you really want and go from there.

I seem to recall a dream I had recently, where verbatim (spelling?) your post here was in my head and I awoke with cold sweats in the middle of the night

Seriously though, for some of us, once you start modding.. it's over I remember before I knew about this forum, I had just a cat-back and CAI I put in..then I got on here and then headers/heads/cam pacakge wheels, 2000watt stereo later... here I am today wondering where all my money went...oh yea its sitting in the garage under a cover for the winter

I made it relatively stock through a 64, 72 and 93. Then my brother told me about this site---I did find my 01 here, but caught that mod bug here as well......so far just CAI, headers and exhaust, but I caught myself looking up posts on cams and heads last night...............
