Getting ready to take the car out of storage and do a couple of projects. I was thinking of ordering the Engine Oil Quick Drain Valve from Mid America Motorworks and wanted to get some feedback from anyone who has installed one. Are they that easy to use? Have you experienced any leaks? I would appreciate any comments.
I did a change the other day and the drain bolt fell into my catch-pot. Would be nice to not have to put a ratchet on that bolt and to just "flick" the lever.
I'll probably be ordering one too seeing as I put miles on/change oil fairly often.
Most Corvette owners probably do not change their oil more than once or twice a year, so why take a chance that a valve could accidentally get knocked open just for a little convenience?
Even if the drain plug falls into the pan, it is no big deal to retrieve it out of the pan. You could even leave it in there until you empty the drain pan and catch it in a funnel.
I used one of those on a different type of vehicle. It worked great for quite some time, then developed a slight leak. The flow from those are a bit slow as the valve ID is smaller than the ID of the drain hole in the pan.
If you chose to use one, adjust it (if possible) so the lever isn't facing down.
With a C5 as low as it is, I could see the potential for road debris to possibly damage the lever.
I bring my vette to the dealer....yes I said the dealer....
They allow me to bring my own 7 quarts of Mobil 1 and AC Delco filter and they just charge me something like 16 dollars. I have the BMW pucks in all the time so I have not had to worry about the lift.
