Default headlight problem

hi and help please?
i changed the front passenger side turn signal bulb and now the headlights won't go down. could there be something in that area that i tripped or knocked loose that would have disabled both sides?
thanks for any and all help and advice,
mike.

I don't have an answer for you but amazingly yesterday I replaced the drivers side turn signal and my headlights are stuck in the up position and my interior lights are not working. Hope there is a quick fix as I searched the forum with no success. BTW mine is a 02 vert.

Not to state the obvious.. but did you go through the top to change the bulb? If so, did you disconnect the motor plug? Can you manually put the lights down with the ****? Did you replace the bulb with a LED or just with another factory style bulb?

Check all the fuses first. Did you replace from the bottom or the top?

I dont want to hijack the OPs thread, but I replaced the bulb with a OEM replacement, from the top by removing the black bezel from the headlight door. I didnt unplug anything, just reached down and unscrewed the bulb plug and replaced the bulb. I checked each and every fuse in both boxes, found # 6 in the footwell blown but still no rear running lights, or headlight door extension or retraction. Just for clarity both headlights illuminate but neither open or close. I can open close manually with no binding so I dont think its a gear issue. Thanks in advance for the assist.

YES, the headlight module is mounted UNDER the passenger side headlight.

This is a black box with wires running into it. It senses the current surge when the headlights hit their up and down stops and turns off power. Check the connectors.

Well now I feel really stupid. I know I checked every fuse visually in both boxes, but went back out and checked the #6 fuse (10A) in the passenger side footwell box and it was blown, replaced it and everything came to life. Some times its just that simple. (I will say though in my defense that after rebuilding my 80 C3 that wasnt usually the case...) Thanks to all for the input and I hope the OP has equal success with his problem.

Thanks for the help and info, everybody. Unfortunately I didn't get any responses until after I dropped the car off at the dealer this morning. I got worried because aside from the headlights not retracting and no dash or instrument lights-I could have gotten by for another day or two on the HUD,- it was brought to my attention last night that I also had no tail lights.
$52.50 later they did indeed replace #6, AND #7- the lighter-which probably was already blown and I just didn't know it.
Thanks again everybody, and Cheers from St Simons Island GA.
Mike.

Hi Guys-
Just an update, since by some twist of fate, the following week the drivers side front signal burned out.
Of course, anybody who's changed these from the top knows the epic grief involved. And of course, while trying to hold the socket with my left hand-no easy feat in the first place-and trying to push the bulb into the socket through the 3/4" opening from the top, of course I missed and the bulb fell into the Bermuda triangle somewhere under the headlight assembly. Happened on my 98 too.....WTF???
Anyway, I just thought I'd pass on a neat little trick I thought of while driving the 20+ &^%)#@$* miles back from the auto parts store with another pack of bulbs. I stuck about an 8" piece of scotch tape on the side of the bulb. This enabled me to hold the socket with my left hand and dangle and swing the bulb through aforementioned 3/4" gap while still being able to see the socket. Once I could see the bulb was lined up with the socket I just popped the bulb in with my left thumb, pulled the tape off, stuck the socket back into place, and I was ready to change inside fuse #6. Again.
If this saves anybody from wanting to jump out of a window then my work here is done.
And once again, cheers and live it up, from
St Simons Island, GA
