Default I won CLB Roulette!

Well, after owning my 2003 for 1.5 years, I have finally installed a CLB.

It was a piece of cake to install, and now my stranded worries are over (at least in regards to the column locking)!

Congratulations for having the courage to tackle this - I still worry about it - Here's why:

I have a 99 with 25,000 miles Auto Trans. The steering column does NOT lock when the key is removed so I assume the dealer did something to the locking plate ?

My GM Vehicle History Report says the following so I assume this means that the dealer did a re-call on the CL with the previous owner ??

RC 01044 CORVETTE ELECTRONIC COLUMN LOCK N/A Closed
02/04/2002 M77430 0 N2061 - SWITCH - COLUMN RELEASE (STEERING) - REPLACE 5542 miles
02/04/2002 077430 # V0743 - ECL RELAY HARNESS REPLACE 5542 miles

Not sure what all that means.

My Question:
Should I still do the Column Lock Bypass if the dealer has done the retro-fit ?

If the answer is yes - What is involved with doing this if the dealer has already done their thing on it ?

I know there is a ton of reading on this subject and it has just gotten me more confused with all the opinions and endless reading.

I am not sure if I can still install the aftermarket CLB if the delaer has already done their retro-fit.

Already got enough on my plate these days so I am hoping for the best.

YES,,YES,,YES!!!!! By al means YES!!!Dealer intervention(factory fixes) actually make you MORE vulnerable to getting stranded!!You need to remove the dealer installed "K-harness" and install the CLB!! They install the K-harness,,remove the locking plate AND,,,PROGRAM IN THE 2MPH FUEL CUTOFF!! WHEN,,not if the K-harness fails,,you will be stranded by the cut off!! Other than the fact I have a stick,,that is exactly what got me,,THEIR FIX failed and I could barely get the car off the street,, CLB fixed it and no problem since,,closing in on 2 years!!!

Congrats 77...you were lucky playing that game!

Sax...you still need to do the CLB....it's easy and will give you some piece of mind. Just because the dealer has done a few things to it....still will not ward of the dreaded column lock!

Does the CLB Come with FULL Instructions if you already have the dealer installed fix ?

I know it should explain how to install the CLB if you DON"T have the Dealer Installed fix. I know there are many posts here about putting the CLB in (the aftermarket one) but it is hard to find the proceedure when you have the dealer installed fix.

I don't know what the dealer installed fix looks like so I can't remove it if I don't know what it looks like. And most of the tutorials here don't show it either.

I am getting a headache stressing about it.

Can someone point me in the right direction for a tutorial with pics THAT HAS THE DEALER INSTALLED CL FIX ?

I am glad I am not playing that game anymore!

Sax, get it! The peace of mind will be worth every penny. It comes with complete instructions, and it is simple to do. It may have taken me 45 minutes, maybe.

I'm just a couple days away from getting one and putting it on. I feel like I'm living on borrowed time too.

I am in the same situation: recall mod seems installed (having "White, Purple, Green, Black" on the other side of the connector).

Should I install CLB directly or should I take any action prior to install it ?

I've read in another thread to "add a jumper wire between the white wire (pin 30) and the orange wire (pin 87)" => but how to "Remove your BCM and locate the recall mod relay" ???

Any information welcome

My dealer installed K-harness lasted maybe 6 months. I got a CLB and installed in myself in 30-45 mins. : )

No One has explained the proceedure if you have the Dealer Fix on it already.

Is there a picture tutorial with this info. (I know there is lots of info about it without the dealer recall) BUT If it has it I need a pic tutorial with the proceedure to remove and replace the dealer fix.

Links please ?
