Default Oil Life wont reset...?

I push and hold the reset button for two seconds, hear the beep, and the percentage goes to _ _ _ %, but it doesn't reset. When I restart the car, the oil life goes back to showing 30%. What am I doing wrong?

This happened to me last oil change. Took me a little bit to figure out.

It was something really dumb when I did figure it out though. Like I had the key turned wrong or the engine was running. I don't really remember, but I was so pissed when I figured it out.

Turn the key to the on position. Press the gas pedal to the floor 3 times. Turn the ignition switch to off. Start the car and check. It should read 100%

I agree, just make sure the engine is off but the key is on.

Wow. I suppose just a simple "hold the reset button for 5 seconds" would have been too simple for GM huh?

Hi

Same problem this week on my 2002. It didn't matter how long I held down the reset while the DIC was displaying the oil life monitor. It would beep and reset to ___%. Next time I started the car I got the warning. Still wondering what that is all about.

The gas pedal to the floor 3 times worked perfectly.

I use the push the reset button method too and yes, it does take a little longer than a couple of seconds for the reset oil life percentage to appear.

This is the only method I have ever used for 15 years - do it every 6 months when I change oil.
