Default Cheap upgrades

Alrighty muchachos, what in your opinion would be the best cost to performace upgrades I can do to my C5. My buddy just purchased a new SS camaro and it is hard for me to continue my trash talking without the proof to back it up. Im on a lowly navy guy's salary so I want to see the best performance upgrades I can get for only 500 bucks.
Don't let this camaro turn me into a dandy! Help!

I think for $500 your best bang will be gears, but they will have to be used.

Or you might be able to get a cold air intake and a mailorder tune for five bills...

You think a tune on a stock c5 would increase performance? Thinking one of those diablo preditor bad boys?

I fully understand your financial situation... Dont try to compete with someone who has more exposable income... the stock air box can be replace and s significant gain can be had .. thats where you should look first... you can get fresh cooler air with a black wing or vara ram ( more money ) .... getting the air in cooler and getting it out with a max flow type exhaust are usually the first two steps.. a better intake and a better exhaust system but these two items can not be had for 500 dollars... people spend tens of thousands on mods for these cars.. 500 dollars wont buy too much trash talk... maybe about as much as a single dirty napkin at McDonald's. ( small trash )

Get a mail order tune $150 from ESC, lower thermostat ~45(pretty a much have since your doing a tune) a Vararam $255 shipped. That put you at $450 exactly but to ship the ecu will be about $15-20 so your at $470. You have $30 left. Also if you get a used intake you will have money to purchase a used ported throttle body. That should be a good race and practice driving

Thanks Chicago1

We also have some great condition take off cold air intakes here that we set you up with along with the tune. I can probably do the CAI, a 160 stat, and the tune for under $500 for sure.

btw, thanks for your services

Here's a little info: My Vette ran a 13.05 stock, the new SS Camaros around here are at 13.5 at best. They are too heavy, if you are stock and he is stock you should win. P.S. just don't miss a shift if its a 6 speed.

for 500 - just buy a set of drag radials and take him to the drag strip-you'll beat him safely and legally there.

ECS mail tune will be worth the $150. Just make sure you tell them what you have done before you get the tune. They do excellent work!!

The mail order tune and a good air intake are good starting points. But, you might just want to save for a while and then do some LT headers.

You mail in your ecu and they flash different paramiters on your ecu. They do things like add timing, add fuel, etc etc. See my first link to ECS or just call them
