Why don't c5's sound as good as......

Stock compared to Stock, yes the Mustangs sound much tougher and cooler Once you start modding though, everything goes out the window. I like the stangs too, but IMO, put headers, bullets on a C5 or C6 whatever and it sounds just as tough as a Stang with the same mods.

Yea, even the ZR1 sounds like a puss-mobile with stock exhaust First time I heard one start up I was like "go figure, quiet as a mouse" but not surprised.

2020 C5 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
You are so right. I owned a '93 and '95 Z28 and they had one of the best sounding factory exhausts I've ever heard, in fact people would ask me what kind of aftermarket exhaust I had on the '95. The factory 'vette exhaust has been tame sounding since the mid '70's. It never made sense to me?

Aside from firing order, the power to weight ratio makes a bit of a difference in sound especially on acceleration.
A 1997 corvette has a curb weight of 3,221 pounds and a 345 hp 5.7L V8
weight to power ratio of 9.336lb/bhp
A 2005 mustang GT has a curb weight of 3,483 pounds and a 300hp 4.6L V8
weight to power ratio of 11.61lb/bhp
this means a mustang will haev to pull harder to accelerate its fat *** and thus sound louder and more aggressive. This is why you can hear mustangs roaring away but it doesn't look like they're going very fast.

I never hear them when i'm out because my car roars way over the top of them i haven't heard a car louder and i've got a Loud Pipes Competition trophy to prove it it beat out some big blocks with open headers in loudness. 126dB baby ~Cole~
P.S. on a serious note mustangs do sound good.

**** this is simple. If you can afford it. Owned an 96 mustang GT with glass packs. Backed off really well. Real throaty. Just put a set of Kooks headers and x-pipe on her with a set of Borla cat-backs and the stang will sound like a ricer in comparision!!!!!

It's not just the firing order that makes Mustangs sound good, it's the setup of the airbox and airflow as well. Car companies pay big bucks to have their own "signature" sound. Most mustangs from the fox bodies all the way to todays still sound pretty much the same.
All in all, I love the way modified vettes sound. They have their own unique flavor, and depending on what set up you have, a vette can have more range of different sounds then a Mustang. However...I still do miss the sound of my fox body with Thrush CVX, and then later Mac flow paths...they sounded like the earth was coming to an end, and I loved every minute of it!

Exhaust setup, firing order, length of the exhaust, etc, etc.
I have LT headers, off-road X-pipe, and Borla Stingers and I think don't think it sounds as good as a properly done Mustang V8.
There's something about that echo in between shifts that makes those cars sound over the top good.

i had an 03 GT with shorty headers, o/r-x pipe and a borla catback. it sounded pretty good, but i will take the sound of my vette over it any day- kooks long tubes, catted x, b&b bullets

I have had 4 mustangs, a 83 with a 306, a 88, a 95, and a 02. All with different exhaust set ups, and they all sounded the same. its all muffler sound and no engine power sound. Im so glad the c5, c6's dont sound like boats. here is mine, tell me which one sounds better???
