Default Update, No luck at all!!!!

I am now a member of the broken valve spring club. Or should I say the 2 broken valve spring club. One on #5 and one on #8. First day out after a long winter and I didn't even make it to work. I'm starting to wonder if I can afford to own a Corvette. For the first time ever, I've been asking myself, what's next? I love my car but right now it's about two inches away from becoming a trade in.

I feel you on that....

also, it seems as if its value depreciates but the "vette tax" does not...

Really sorry to hear that. Have not had that type of problem at all. Perhaps sitting too long. Don't know. But at any rate, good luck, and don't give up on the vette. They can be frustrating at times. Oh, and GO STEELERS. SC boy now! But always a Steelers fan.

Just started missing real bad and running rough as hell. Eventually it died and when I tried starting it again I had to give it gas to keep it running. After that I just shut it down and when into work. Had it towed when I was done working.

Good luck getting the car repaired. I know things like this can cause you to be frustrated, but hang in there - hopefully this will be all that goes wrong for a long time.

Sorry for your misfortune!! Just curious,,were you running it hard when it went?? It shouldn't really make a difference since these cars are supposed to take it,,just wondering!!

Not running hard at all. Actually I just turned off a main road and was doing about 35 for a mile or two when they broke.

Just basic. B&B Bullets, intake. I can almost see one breaking since there's a known problem with them. Two on the other hand breaking under no real strain just boggles my mind.

That sucks!

If that happened to me, I would replace ALL the springs - something is not right.

Just plain weird!! I got mine with 55K on it ,,let Valvoline use it for a Dyno Display at the Mid-West Nationals a couple of years ago,,did 13 Dyno pulls and have made about 2 dozen passes since. Now have almost 75K an not a single motor problem! TWO on an easy drive is really odd!! Had to be some kinda defect on that batch or something!! These things can wing it to 6,000 on a fairly frequent basis no aweat. Just weird!!

For others reading this post, if your car starts acting up as Steel City Vette described, don't try restarting. By doing so you have the potential to end your engines life. I suggest replacing all the valve springs. Do a search and go with springs that most go with your particular mods if any. Good luck.

Picked up the car today. I know when this happened that I was pretty down on the Vette. About a day later it felt like there was a hole in my life and I couldn't wait for the call to pick her up. This is what it ended up costing me. I'm just gonna copy what they have on the invoice.

2 AC Delco Spark Plugs 18.00
1 Spark plug Wire 30.77
2 Valve Springs 24.74
2 Valve cover Gaskets 22.79
Labor 443.00
Tax 31.78
10% Disc on Parts 9.63
Total 560.45

Found #8 cylinder valve spring for exhaust broken and intake spring twisted. Also found #5 and #7 spark plugs fouled and #5 spark plug wire dry rotted.

Don't know if I got ripped off or not but I'm just happy that it's back and running strong.

If something like that happened to me, I'd be thrilled to pay the $560.

Great to hear it is running well again.

I absolutely love WOT!
