Default GM parts direct

There may be a more appropriate forum for this but I'm sure someone here knows. Do they not take phone calls? I could not find one anywhere on their website.

They do not have a phone number. They deal strictly through e-mail, so imagine the volumes of messages that's involved. Unless things have changed on their website, they explain that's how they keep their prices lower. Their shipping and handling charges are another issue. Easy contact with the company has always been an issue. But, if it's a part you cannot find anywhere else, they seem to be able to have better results as they deal through the GM dealership parts database. FYI, they are part of FLOW CHEVROLET (NC).

I would suggest you do a little research by using search. While there are some advantages of using the company, there are a lot of negatives as well.

Use "gmpartsdirect" as keywords. You should find lots of reading material...

Thanks for the response. I followed your advice. I will definitely NOT be dealing with them. I prefer companies I can call if there's a problem and sounds like they are NOT a quality, customer oriented company. More like, "Once we got your money, we aren't letting go of it for any reason!!"

I have used them in the past when every other dealership said a particular part was no longer available through GM. They found the discontinued part in a few days on dusty shelves at another dealership across the country.

That's where the shipping and handling costs come in. The consumer pays for S&H from the supplying dealer to GMPD, and then again to the consumer. That's also where the extra time to get the part comes in. So, you have to be patient.

I wanted the part bad enough (LT1/LT4 magnesium valve covers) that I was willing to wait and willing to pay.

As long as you know that up front and are willing to accept the costs involved (and lack of communication), it's a good resource.

Personally, I'd rather deal with a real human voice on the telephone. But, sometimes you do what you gotta do.

I've never had aproblem with their shipping and handling costs. I don't care if they charge me $0.04 for the part and $205.00 for shipping so long as their TOTAL PRICE is lower than anyone else's for the same GM part.

I've ordered stuff from them and have NEVER had a problem. Some pretty obscure stuff too. Try finding those tiny little bulbs that illuminate the HUD controls on the left side of the panel.. Or for that matter just replacement bulbs for backlighting for door controls, etc.

Go to ANY dealer in the country and they'll stare at you like a deer in headlights. They are 1/2 price of counter parts + shipping and have never had an issue.

But, if you only want to deal with a brick an mortar w/ a phone, your choice.

It's not that I "only" want to deal with that but I'd like to be able to pick up the phone and ask a question if/when a problem does arise. Judging by the sheer volume of negative info available on this site and other compared to the positive info of others, I'll pay a few extra bucks for piece of mind knowing I can talk to someone, if needed rather than waiting (and hoping) to get an email response.

I did notice they have great prices. If I were to run out of options, I'd give them a shot but if I have other choices, I'll go with a more reputable company.

This is one of a couple of reasons I dont use them for my parts because I expect to be able to speak to a person if I have a problem or a question not knowing the part # etc. I use Chevy parts and they also list a part # on their website. I think they are associated with friendly chevrolet in dallas which has a good reputation all around. This is just my opinion and I know alot of people who have good results with gmpardirect also.

I get a discount at my local GM dealer, and I have found that the freight charges at GM Parts Direct offsets any savings on the parts.
I order through the dealer, get a discount on the part, and don't pay any freight since they get trucks from the warehouse everyday anyway.

Another reason I like my local dealer is that if there is a problem with the part, they take care of it. GM Parts Direct in many cases will not take the part back.

Just as stated above--When they got your money, they GOT your money. Don't make a mistake by ordering the wrong part and expect to cancel your order and get your money back, even if it's only been a few minutes since you placed the order. I finally got my order canceled and charges dropped/reversed but it wasn't easy! Just my 2 cents!!!

I will agree our customer service needed some attention. I have worked to improve our customer service. This includes, our email response time, it should not take days for any customer to receive a response to their email request. Since email is our only line of communication, we want to have an answer to your request in a timely manor and we understand that you do not want to wait for a response.

We can handle all problems, questions or concerns via email. We are live people behind the computer and can answer your question as well or better than via the phone. Answering questions via email help keep accurate records and if one of our tech's supplies the incorrect information, we can pull the email correspondences and correct the error with you the customer and assist the tech so the information can be supplied correctly in future emails.

If you have not purchased from us (GmPartsDirect.com) in the past couple of years, due to a problem you had on a previous order, please give us another chance to win your business. I have been the manager here at GmPartsDirect.com for just a couple of years and request that we (GmPartsDirect.com) not be judged on past experiences. I have worked to correct a lot of the problems that we had in the past. We have noticed the threads here on this forum (CorvetteForum.com), other forums that we support and customer feed back and have worked to correct the concerns and issues. We all here at GmPartsDirect.com want to be your genuine GM parts supplier and the most customer friendly site. If you find a lower delivered price at one of our competitors, please email us a screen shot and link of their delivered price and we will try to meet/beat their delivered price. We do not like being under sold.

If you send an email and have not received a response to the email within 24 hours of sending the email, please PM me so I can make sure to answer your question and make sure that all emails are answered in a timely manor. Please keep in mind that our hours of operation are Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm EST, and we are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. If an email is sent on Saturday or Sunday we will reply to your email on Monday.

Thank you,

Scott

While I'm not a customer of theirs, I hate talking on the phone, waiting to talk to someone on the phone, pushing 100 buttons just to try and talk to someone on a phone, I much prefer e-mail as a means of communication just as long as I get a response.

From my experience OEHQ.com has hands down been my choice for oem GM parts.

I would gladly buy from GMpartsdirect if it was not for the shipping costs. If they are willing to match OEHQ on shipping I would surely give them a chance for my business.

Get used to it, folks. In 5 years, it will no longer be "mail-order" and phones are on the way out for customer service. Call center phone systems - the good ones (Avaya, etc.) - are hideously expensive and labor intensive. You have to train every one of those operators to give the same answer for over thousands of questions.
