These cars are pretty tough. Fortunately cars these days are designed to be used in all types of weather and all type of circumstances. We pamper these cars (me included) far more than we need to. I shake my head from time to time when I read the things we worry about. Bottom line, it's just a car, use it like a car and stop worrying about it's short/long time reliability unless you actually abuse it constantly.
You probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than having the car start.
While cranking at W.O.T., the fuel injectors are deliberately kept off. No fuel is supplied to the cylinders in that mode.
What probably may have happened in my case, is the pedal was probably not completely floored when I started it. Maybe the carpet got caught or something. Anyway, that experience completely turned me off to trying it again.
Fired my '01, A4, 49,000 miles, coupe up today after 4 months of unheated garage storage. (Covered and on a battery tender.) Started on the first crank with no issues. Normal idle, oil pressure fine in less than 5 seconds. (35psi +) Oil came up to temp as normal and ran fine. All other temps (water, trans) normal within 10 minutes. Only lost 2 psi in the tires over the winter. Changed all the fluids before I put it away last fall, including oil, coolant, brake, trans etc. Full tank of gas with Stabil added.
Long story, short, with outside temp at 60 degrees and no high revs at start up you should be OK.
I started mine after sitting since December, it fired right up and the oil pressure was at 50 PSI in about a second or two. It'll be fine.
