After you repaint it make sure you put Cleartastic or something like that on it to protect it. If you don't it's going to chip about 3 times faster than it did before.
Body shop quotes are ridiculous, that's what happens when insurance is the primary payor in the industry - kinda like heath care
I took my 84 to a number of body shops for a quote on a complete repaint job. Well they ranged from $10.000 to $6000.00 and one for $5750.00 So I would think to have your bumber removed and sanded and repainted should cost you $500.00 to $800.00 I had a shop near here take both the front and rear bumbers off of my beige 1979 coupe. it cost all told $1000.00 to remove repaint and reinstall both bumbers. Hope this helps.
Mine had to be done in late 2008. It was about $760 + 80 for the emblem. Basically, they have to have to or should remove the original paint before they repaint. To do this, my body shop sanded it off since media blast doesn't work very well for the bumper material.
Funny you ask, my wife took mine in yesterday to have it painted, get it back next week sometime. Supposedly the best paint shop in my little podunk town. Quoted us $880, which we thought was a good price. After seeing some of the prices other posters have mentioned, I guess it's not so great a price....ugh.....
I install the clear bras and I love how people complain about the price of them when its $600-$700 installed for partial hood, fenders, mirrors, and full bumper (dealerships charge $800ish) when it costs up to $800 just to have the bumper repainted. And I bet that does not include blending the hood/fenders that needs to be done on most metallic paint cars.
