Default Newbie Looking For Some Help

I just purchased a 2004 Coupe and the targa top rattles badly. I assume that the front latches need to be replaced, but when I went to the dealer to inquire about them, I was told they have been discontinued. How you discontinue parts on a six year old car is beyond me. So I'm turning to you guys to see if anyone knows of another source for these latches, or is there another fix to eliminate my rattle? Thanks.

More and more parts for the C5 are being discontinued unfortunately. You might want to call Gene at gmpartshouse.com and see if he can locate you the parts you need. Sometimes he has good luck finding things other dealers say are not available.

Thanks for the prompt feedback. I took a look at their website and it shows what I'm looking for. I need to call them and find out if they actually have them. Thanks again.

I like to drive with the targa off but we had a rainy summer in Jersey last year, so my roof was on and off a lot. It started to rattle when I put it on once and I just put a heavy coat of die electric grease in and around the latches, and it took care of the noise...
try it.

gene culley is a great guy to deal with on top of always seeming to go the extra mile to help a customer.

It may just need adjusting.

white lithium grease in the pocket where the locatiing pin sits cured the popping/rattling in mine - I'd sure lube it first before replacing latches.

I'm willing to try anything, but this doesn't appear to be a noise within the latch itself. Not sure if grease will work. This is a very harsh slapping of the acrylic panel along the windshield header (or so it sounds). Maybe an adjustment would be the ticket. I'll have to dig into it and see how to do that. Thanks.

Default Following Up

Just wanted to update you on my targa top rattle...took your advice and tried adjusting first. I found I didn't even have to take the header garnish trim off, just got my 10mm wrench in there, dropped the striker assembly a little, tightened her up, and I was good to go. I may consider changing the weatherseals down the road because I'm sure they're compressed after all these years. Thanks again for the advice.
