hey guys just looking for some opinions on exhaust systems. im doing a catback 1st and am deciding between the b&b bullet or the borla stinger. from what ive heard on youtube they are both pretty loud and im just wondering what you guys prefer. im also looking for hp gains. hopefully some1 has dyno'd before and after a catback im looking for somewhere around 10whp from a catback and that seems to be average although i know the z06 ti system flows well so idk how much improvements can be made on it.
catbacks on a C5 are strickly for sound only.. Our cars flow extremely well from the catalytic converter through the stock mufflers... The restrictive part of the exhaust is further up the line ( , cat converters and stock exhaust manifold). I had the borla stingers on my 99 c5 and loved them, except for the drone at 1800-2000-rpm.. I actually lost 3-5 hp on the dyno but the stingers sounded mean.. Go to a local Corvette get together to see what others have and what sound "YOU" like best... Don;t let anyone on this forum tell you what "THEY" think is best.. Everyone has their own opinion and you will get a bunch of them with your post... As for hp you can either go to shorty headers (8-10hp) or Long Tube headers (20 hp and the preferred choice over shorties) also some good hi flow catalytic converters as well as a good professional dyno tune will bring your hp numbers up even more
Good Luck

I'm just going to tell you what "I" think. I'm an old muscle car guy. In fact I still have a 72 Camaro with a 383 Stroker. It has long headers and the Flowmaster "American Thunder" exhaust. Now it's loud, and I love it. My Borla Stingers have that mean muscle car sound that I really love. Here's what they look like.
GHL Bullets have a huge following on here, and most say there's little to no drone at cruise. I'm still running my stock Ti, but I've been on the fence for months about switching to the GHL's. I've heard them on a C5Z, and they sound real good.
After doing my research I chose the Borla Stinger cat back system with a Magnaflow crossover pipe. Have been very happy with the sound and no resonance at any rpm.
thanks for the input guys! i think im going to get longtubes and an intake and a tune and get some more power before i start spending $$$ on sound haha
When you do get ready to spend money on sound, put some serious thought into modifying the stock Ti exhaust. Look around and you can find some sound clips for it. Sounds MUCH better than stock on my otherwise bone stock Z06. Headers and high flow cats are next on my wish list....

He has a very good point. I finished up a header/xpipe install last night. Started her up just for the heck of it and she was LOUD!!! Here in about 30 minutes after I get bak from Lowes, the GHL's will be going on.
They're a little more expensive than the others, as far as sound goes, I see no comparison, GHL hands down. Look up some of their videos, wont be disappointed.

very smart choice.. You may think twice on purchasing a cat back system after you do the header install.. The long tubes will spice up the rumble of your stock Titanium mufflers

Perfect! Best combo for starters. I did my Borla Stingers as my very first mod, and though they were badass sounding, they proved to be too much after I did other mods. Bottom line, I wish I'd waited to change (or not) out the catback until I'd done other mods.
Do aftermarket long tube headers offer performance gains for a 2002 Z06??
Thanks for the info
Edit: sorry posted in the wrong area, sorry for the hijack, a quick answer would be appreciated though
To answer your "jack", then, yes, LTs offer nice gains over stock exhaust manifolds. Better yet, they're an essential building block for all the mods you'll do down the road.
hopefully it does give me the sound i want! the stock system is actually pretty loud when you romp on it surprisingly! what numbers have you all experienced with just longtubes, stock ti system, intake, and tune? is 420whp a decent goal or is that too high?
My personal preference is the the stock titanium system with longtube headers. I also like it when the stock system has a bypass; I plan to do that on my car.
If you're going aftermarket catback, I think the best tone is either the GHL or Corsa Xtreme. I also like the exotic-ness of the Corsa titanium system that was produced for a little while...but those are pricey and hard to find.
Check out some video clips on youtube and decide what YOU like. There are too many options out there.
