There have been a few local C5's for sell within the last week...
one that stood out was a 1998 C5 Red Coupe +150,000 miles 6 speed Slp Exhaust Cold air intake Diablo Chip After market Hood Chrome C5 Z06 wheels.... Listed as a C5 Z06 Clone for $15,000
Are C5's really selling for this, I know I have been in the C6 world now for 6 months after 7 C5's but I didnt know if I was missing something and needed to run out and buy another C5
You cant beat some of the C5 Z06's for sell on here for UNDER $20,000!!! Even some Priced from $16-19k are a steal!!
I think it's the normal obvious stuff, market/economy and the C5's now, think about it, the 04's are now 6 years old. If you are looking at 01 and 02's you are talking about an 8-9 year old model car. Also, lots of people starting to get rid of C5's for used C6's.
I'll have my modded 01 6spd coupe paid off in a few months and I am trying to decide whether to buy a modde C5Z and have a fast car with lower payment..or foot the bill and get an LS3C6. I am leaning toward the modded C5Z as I just have never liked the base C6body. The Z and GS are out of my price range.
In the Atlanta area there are very few C5's priced under $20k.
Most of the C5Zo6s and nice/select C5's are in the mid 20's with "good" prices being low 20's.
I'm still shocked by the people that post how they found their pristine cars for bottom-feeder prices... I sure as hell don't see those prices listed low other than here, but then again, I'm not calling around trying to buy either.
I missed out on this one by a few days when I was in the hospital for surgery... so I was thinkin $15,000 for a 98' with 155k miles or $16,000 for 2001 Z06 with 86k miles... I just sold my 02' vert for $17k with 80k miles and wanted something to replace it... but if prices are jumping this much I might buy one and relist it and make a few bucks LOL

I think price on used C5's depends on many factors. Some that I found while searching nightly for that past 5+ months were as follows. I could find all day long C5 convertibles, usually A4's on the cheap. Yellow cars were always a couple thousand more than say a white or black car. Silver was a little less, red was about the same as silver. Red with black top/leather/6 speed would bring more than a red tan top/tan leather, and ususally more than a silver/black interior. A4's are more available over M6's. M6's were usually more costly than A4's. Convertibles a few dollars more over the non- 'verts. All this research finally paid off on my recent purchase of a '99 C5 'Vert, silver/black interior, 6 speed for $21K. 47K miles, original owner, his weekend car, etc. This same car on a car lot would maybe go a little cheaper, but was worth it to me to be able to speak to the original owner and get the true history of the car. Ok, I'm done ramblin'!

C4 owners are asking OUTLANDISH prices, was just on craigslist, some fools think their C4;s are suddeenly worth $10-$15k !....it's unreal to watch people price these things, and what they THINK they are worth...and of course they are not selling at those outrageos prices
I would expect that 98 with 150k to sell for almost $5k less than that asking price. You can get early, high mileage C5s for $10k right now. If its a Z you are after, you can definitely get a lower mile one for under $20k.

No way I would pay $15K for a car with 150K miles on it.
No flames here,,,my guess is he just put rear brake vents on and red Fuel Rail Covers on!! The only way you could "clone" a Z06 would be tacl on the stuff on a 99-2000 FRC!! At $15K for a 98 with 150,000 miles,,,,,dream on!!! Sounds like TN Vette found a jewel!!

Thanks, and that's what I thought too, you'd at least have to start with a FRC. I also thought it amazing someone would do that as opposed to just buying a Z06. I guess it's kind of like some Chevy Camaro guys putting C5 Flag emblems on their rides. Talk about "red-flag," 150k miles, cloned Z06, and $15k.....I don't think so.
OP, if I were you, I'd definitely pass on this one.
I think a lot of what is happening is the bottom price (early C5 high mileage) and the top price (pristine 2004 Z06 garage queen) are getting closer together. While the high used to be 30 and the low was 15 for a c5, now its' 10-20k.
So you can get a lot more car for not much more money, but the low price didn't go that much lower. After all there isn't THAT much difference between a 12 year old car with 100k miles and a 7 year old car with 50k assuming both are well kept.

The early high milage C5's aren't worth $10K, they've fallen to $5-7K trade in value according to Kelly Blue Book. Anyone who pays north of $9K is getting ripped off on a high mileage C5.
Nobody is buying these Corvettes. I see the same ones listed on Craigslist for many months. Nobody is buying.
Im moving to florida and trying to decide on a C5 for a DD and keep the C6 for sunny days seeing how we just sold the C5 vert and down to the one C6.. OR buying a Used Fountain Offshore boat for $20-30k seeing how well be in Florida on the water vs Tx in San Antonio...
