Default Floor Jacks and Harbor Freight

So I got my Vette Mag and it had some coupons in it, which I will show pictures of at the end.

It's time for me to get a floor jack, do you guys think the one in this add is a good deal? I know the price is right with the coupon for sure. Does anyone have this or know if its any good?

3000 LB Capacity Lightweight Aluminum Racing Jack U.S. General
Item No: 91039

Also it has a 20% off any one item, what else should I get why I'm there? =) Planning on doing lots of front end work over the next couple of months. So Jack Stands and what else? Will be working with my lights / vararam a lot.

Thanks in advance as you guys always rock with information.

I have this jack...it works pretty well with a C5. Just make sure you use some lifting pucks with it. I made the diy hockey pucks. Jack stands are a good idea but don't know about the quality of HF stands but almost all stands available are made in China.
Try to use the 20% off coupon with the jack coupon, play dumb.

Personally, I wouldn't purchase that aluminum jack that is pictured in the add. I would however purchase a jack, & have from H/F. I prefer the steel heavier 3 ton jacks, around 70-$80. on sale w/coupon. A decent aluminum jack there would be @ or above $150. on sale. Don't ever buy the aluminum jacks from Sears. Ask me how I know. They sure look pretty though,(nice door stops) LOL! Good luck w/your decission.

my friend used the 20% coupon for the floor jack. It works well, we used it on my vette, and it worked great.

I've had the Sears 2 ton aluminum jack for about 8 years. Works fine. My only complaint is that I damaged one of the rear wheels and there is NO replacement available through Sears. I managed to jerry rig an alternative that works but is not ideal. The hydraulics work fine and (knock on wood) no leaks after 8 years.

I bought that HF jack and think it's great. They wouldn't let me use the 20% off coupon though.

So use my 20% off on a nicer jack... And maybe still get the cheap jack? lol

Any links of the jack you like for the $70-80 your talking about?

So go with the cheap jack then? And I don't see them letting me use 2 coupons.

So he got a different jack then the one in the add? Which One?

Make sure it will jack to the height you want.. some of them look really nice, but have limited max height.

I just got an Arcan aluminum jack from HF and really like it.

So sounds like I've got some good Jack options when I go there today for Lunch, anything else I should be looking for to use that 20% off on?

Maybe just something you guys wish you had when you started working on your cars? I don't have too many tools yet, just buy what I need when I need it.

I was in the same boat a couple months ago. Had the same coupon too. I went to HF and looked at the jack. That $59 blue aluminum jack is tiny!!! Very small. It just wasn't worthy of being my dedicated C5 jack. They had a pretty good selection of jacks there and I ended up getting this one.
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=47246
I used the 20% coupon.
It was more than I went to spend but I'm glad I got the bigger one. It is light, moves around well, and sits very low. It has worked very well as my C5 jack. It has handles on the sides of it that are removable. I took them off as they kept getting in my way. I drive the car onto wooden ramps to get it a bit off the ground. (car is very low, no front bolts & longer in the rear) I have a couple pieces of composite decking boards that I cut to fit the front and rear cradle. I lift from the center. Once up, I can slide my jack stands in next to the jack on the outer portion of the cradle ( my composite deck boards extend out just past the cradle). Then I can drop it down on the jack stands. This is where I was having problems with the handles on the sides of the jack, so I removed them.
Good luck with whatever you get.

I use that exact jack and got it for $59.99 as well. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, especially if you use it with jack stands or as a second jack, like I do, for oil changes.

There's a really neat website my brother turned me on to if you guys are interested:

http://garagejournal.com/forum/showt...ghlight=harbor

They've got 50 pages of Pass/Fail grades on the Harbor Freight tools...

I like the 3 Ton Super H/D. Item: 34271-4V6A. Lifts 5 1/4" to 20". Weighs 94 lbs. $80. Don't buy the extended warranty but use your 20% coupon. Should be w/coupon w/out tax around $64. It's not pretty, but sure can cook! LOL P.S. That small aluminum jack is aTOY.

Website is really cool, I kind of hate that its in a forum that we have to search through, but its information is VERY valuable.

When using it for a second jack for oil changes... Are you using it to lift the back of the car up to help drain the last bit of oil? Or what exactly are you using it for?

Yeah, that is orange! But if it gets the job done... If its a ton better, its probably worth the $14.00 more easily.

Maybe I will get this orange one and the one on sale, then I will have 2 for projects.

I have 2 sets of HF jack-stands, 2 ton and 3 ton, for a number of years now, with no problems.

I have that exact USG jack. Extremely useful because it's so lightweight and small. Doesn't take up much floorspace. Good lift height of 17".

It's also nice to be able to throw it in the car when my kid calls with a flat tire! Light and portable!

Yes, that would be the way to go. I too, have the Toy aluminum one, but remember it's just a toy.Don't try lifting the complete front end of the car w/ it. It won't last long if you do. It's great for lifting a wheel @ a time you'll probably never have a problem w/ it.
