I always heard you have to pull the body but you would think it could be done either way. I had a 300 zx and I was told you had to pull the body but it did not make sense so I pulled the engine and tranny right out the top. I would thik on the vette with the limited work area it would be easier to pull the body though if you have access to a lift.
I pulled the motor out of the top. Pretty easy to do. I dropped the front cradle down with the engine supported by the cherry picker. Rack and all went with the cradle.
$100 for the 3 service manuals and you will have everything you need to know at your fingertips.
Just a guess, but if he is doing all of the work himself and doesn't want to pay for a lift, I'm guessing money may be a concern and he may not have the money to spare for the manuals. Probably why he is soliciting assistance from anyone knowledgable on the subject.
To megac5: Not sure how soon you need the info, but I was able to purchase a service repair manual from ebay for $5 shipped on DVD rom. I have no idea if it is a legitimate copy (or even if it works, since I haven't loaded it yet), but it might work for you.
