Driving home on the parkway tonight and I spotted a C4 vert a little ahead in the right lane. I sped up to pull alongside figuring I would toot the horn and give him a wave. When I got close I saw the yellowed rear window held in with duct tape. Duct tape over cuts in the roof. Litterally holes in several places on the body and paint that hasn't seen any water but rain in more years than not.
I did not wave but I thought he really deserved a smack for treating a vette like that.

maybe they just got the vette and are fixing it up little by little or thier 1st vette and got it cheap cause of its condition and with the economy the way it is cant afford to fix it right away.
I sold some property to get my current c5 and it took me 3 or so months of buying parts little by little to do my h/c swap and now i am currently buying audio piece by piece til i can get it all and install it. Not everyone with a vette has cash flowing everywhere and these are tough times. Just my 2 cents

Sometimes you gotta put yourself in thier position and be thankful youre better off. You really might have made his day if you did wave......

You never know the circumstances that the owner is in. Should have waved - you might have made a new friend.
My dad's 85 Vette had to be restored back when he bought it. It was sitting in a drive way for 3 years totally untouched, unwashed, never started... Needless to say, everything on it was fubar. The shocks were all blown, the paint was horrid, the hatch struts leaked everywhere, etc...
The only thing that was perfect on the car was the engine. It started right up no problem even with the bad gas. The car wasn't for sale, but my dad saw it there all the time and asked the guy who owned if it he wanted to sell it. My dad got it for $2,700 (This was back in 95 I think) so it was dirt cheap. Believe me, it looked like a pile, but after some work it was in great running order. It was quick, shifted smooth, sounded VERY good, and ran great. I wish I had video of it. It still looked like a pile and it was on it's way to looking better but it was stolen. I learned to drive on that car and I kind of miss it.
A vette is car. Some are nice some aren't. Nothing lasts forever. It is probably not worth fixinig a c4 in that shape and the guy is going to drive it until it dies. Most vehicles will end up that way sooner or later. I say drive and enjoy.

Excellent point. Everybody is not sitting on a cash box.

Recall a story I read a while back. A guy with a couple of young kids was on a NY subway. The kids were acting up, creating a minor disturbance, and the father wasn't paying close attention. People were looking at each other exchanging disapproving glances. Finally someone spoke up and told the guy he should be controlling his kids better. He apologized and said they had just come from the hospital where his wife/their mother had passed away. They were letting off some steam and he was distracted. The atmosphere on the subway car changed drastically.
You never know what circumstances someone else might be in.
