My orig Goodyear run flats (2002) which happen to be awesome shape has appro 17,000 miles on them and l picked up a tire gauge that says that l have 6/32's left.
Question when do l have to think about replacing them miles wise?
When new, the fronts were 10/32 and rears 11/32 so, you have many miles worth of tread left. With age the compound becomes harder which can limit traction. You would be the best judge of whither or not you are feeling a loss of traction because of that.
As 87Sam has suggested, in your case, the tire's age is far more of a concern than the mileage or tread depth. Seven years is the recommended age limit for tires. This is due to the hardening of the tire compound.
Your both correct and even though they spent most of their life in a garage l can feel them starting to get harder.
Last week l had to move to avoid an uncoming truck where l was probably at 35mph and climbing when l had to stomp down and the back wiggled. But this could have been from the street tune l just did which changed the shift points plus the blackwing that was put on and l'm forgetting something.
Anyway l should plan on switching my tires by the end of the summer for sure. Probably will stay with the runflats and go with the Michelins.
The sad part of living in NJ is that there is no place to play.
englishtown is still around isn't it?? i would think there are plenty of winding roads in western NJ (of course i haven't been there in many years and it may all be walmarts by now, lol).
