So I ordered 4 wheels & tires from Tire Rack on Tuesday, and they were set to be delivered to my house this afternoon. I chose the option of FREE MOUNTING & BALANCING of the wheels, which I thought was pretty sweet that I wouldn't have to go to a shop and pay them to do it.
Well, I did get something delivered from UPS today, however, it was NOT what I was expecting. Rather than getting 4 wheels & tires MOUNTED already, I instead received 3, yes THREE tires, but no wheels. So at the moment I am short 1 tire, and 4 wheels. Is this common practice for Tire Rack or what? They gave me 4 UPS tracking numbers when I made my order, but so far, there has only been progress shown on 3 of them. The weird thing is, all 3 that were delivered today show a shipping weight of 55 pounds each, which is roughly what the wheel & tire would be together.
So my question is, where the heck are my wheels? And how are my tires going to be mounted now?
Anyone else have problems like this with Tire Rack before?
Well I haven't called them yet, because by the time I got home and saw what had happened, they were already closed for the day. I will definitely give them a call tomorrow. This is the 1st time I have ever ordered from TR, and I have to say that I will probably be taking my business elsewhere from now on. It's not that fact that they didn't all come at the same time (which is odd), but it is the fact that they were supposed to be mounted.
I don't have a pickup that I can just haul these things around in, so trying to get them somewhere where they can be mounted is gonna be a pain in the ***. I think I'm gonna ask for them to ship me what I ordered (4 tires/wheels, MOUNTED). They can send UPS to come back to my house and pick up the 3 tires they have already dropped off.
I've ordered at least 7 sets of tires (no wheels) from tire rack. Everything has always arrived at the same time and very promptly.
Even the best online business is at the mercy of the shipping company they use.
This isn't so much a problem with the shipping company, because UPS had them at my front door in 3 days. It is a problem with TR themselves. The tires were supposed to be mounted on the wheels, but here I sit, with 3 tires (not 4) that are not mounted. I have no idea where my 4 wheels and 1 missing tire are.
I think they will be as shocked as you are when you tell them.
I expect they will be apologetic and fix the error ASAP. I have always had good luck with them, & have purchased many sets, some mounted.

I've used them for all my vehicles for the past 16 years or so and the have always been right on the money......don't give up on them yet, give them a chance to correct the error...

I would be upset at the inconvience caused by their mistake but I would give them the chance to make it right.
Stuff happens.
Call them and see what they are going to do to make it right.
Please let us know what happens.
BTW, I have dealt with them a bunch of times and never had an issue.

They'll pick them up...all you need are some labels which they will supply. At the same time they should be sending you what you ordered; this happened to me once and all was fixed with a phone call.
