Wheels questions
1) Is there a difference between the 2000 wheels, which I believe a thin spoke, and the wheels in O1, which look very similar but are possibly a bigger spoke?
2) Am I better off going with factory wheels that have since been chrome-plated or after-market wheels? Obviously, I can sell my wheels if there are no core charges associated with them, reducing the cost.
3) If I go the after-market option, do you folks have any concerns about the manufacturing of these things? A retired wheel engineer for GM posted a while back and I was pretty impressed by the engineering, testing, etc. GM put into its wheels and was wondering if these after-market wheels had the same rigorous specs, testing, etc.?
Obviously I have a lot more options with the after-market wheels, plus I can get a little money back off selling my old wheels.
But my car rolls like a champ now - it's unbelievable on the highway, especially after replacing the tires with non go-flats and I don't to change any of that.
Lastly, which parts houses do you like for after-market wheels and do you think either of the Z6 wheels - C5 or C6 - would look better on a Pewter vet than the spoke wheels?
Any help is appreciated.
the thinspokes are also prone to cracking. There have been several posts on that topic.
Many inexpensive after aftermarket wheels are made in China and the QC is lower, and the weight may be higher... you have to shop around. but they still come with lifetime wheel and usually 3 year chrome guaranteees.
I bought C5 Z06 Chomes for my '01 Quicksilber and they look great.
Bought them from Corvette Garage and have had then since '05 They still loook like new.
