The only trouble with going this way is that it will not charge the ipod.
89 bucks from a vendor here and you have best of both worlds.
and can control it from your radio. http://www.doubledmods.com/Periphera...ter-ipodc5.htm
I have the same problem,, I have 2002, with the skipping changer,, I was told to unbolt it and install soft rubbers washers, or place a foam backing to the unit, to take up the shock from bumps. I have not try ed it yet, But on my list to do soon.

That is a nice gizmo, the only problem I had with it is that I have a Sansa, my wife has a touch IPOD and my son has a Zune. With my set up I can use all three, I'm not limited to just the IPOD. Also, I usually get 5-6 hours from my Sansa on battery power. I also carry the car charger just in case but I think it will be far a few times that I have to use the charger.
I've got an '04. Recently the CD changer has been stopping in the middle of tracks then sending ERR to the display and ultimately flipping back to the radio mode.
Or, on tight curves it creates a noticible static sound when playing a CD. I changed the disc pack, the discs, the disc platters, etc. Nothing changes the way its been acting. Took vehicle to dealership (I have $0 deductible GMPP). Service dept. said, "No problem, will install a new player."
My opinion of your problem isn't going to get fixed with more shock absorption unless its done internal the the unit. I think you need a new unit, a used unit from the For Sale section or get yours refurbished. JMO.
