Default Tire repair kit

Has anyone used the tire repair kit that comes with the C5 ZO6, and if so how did it work?
Also, what is the shelf life of the goop that comes with the kit. My car is an 02 so mine will be eight years old next month. Just wondering if it would still work or should I pick up a jug of the green slime that they sell at Wal-Mart.

Get a tire plug kit. I'd try that before squirting that goop inside the tire. I carry a scissor jack and jack puck on long trips. So far, I haven't had to use it. The compressor in the kit does the job.

I bought the slime at walmart and keep that in w/ the kit just in case. I have a very good tire plug kit but would be very hestitant to plug a vette tire. Should be patched from inside which cant happen on the side of the road. I have plugged some tires and the cords got screwed up and bulged. Ruined tire. I would only attempt it if the hole was too big for slime and I was really stuck. Small scissor jack and puck is a good idea for trips.

Tire can still patched from inside. Doesn't that slime make a mess inside the tire ? Can that goop be cleaned up? After you plug it and get home, the tire can be taken to be fixed with the inside plug. The main thing is to get the tire to hold air and get underway asap. I bought new Goodyears last summer and I got a screw in one of the rears the second day after they were installed. Pissed me off... The inside plug is goes through the tire as well. That's just bad luck screwing up the cords- I've had many tires plugged from the outside and never had that happen.

I should have used the repair kit. I used the goop and tore up the tire. Next time I will repair first.

I have a tire plug repair kit also, I was just wondering about the life of the goop.
From what I am seeing the best way to go is to use the plug so you can get to a repair shop.

Does anyone run the Run Flat tires on their Z06? I hate the idea of having to patch the tire while out in the elements, as the flat usually occurs when it's raining or cold or extremely hot or in a No Service area. Cell phones don't always work in the high country.

I hear ya bro. The goop does make a mess and the tireshop tech will hate ya!! but it can be cleaned up and patched. I know it was bad luck but vette tires ain't cheap. For me it's just for an emergency. I have also just used the compressor to get me where i'm going if possible then do the right fix. They are all options!!

I had just a small nail and the Goop didn't work at all. I ended up tearing up the tire driving home. Cost me $700 to buy 2 new PS2's, then I went and bought a good repair kit. The one with the T-handle tools.

Did a little more homework on the run flat for the Z06; evidently one cannot use run flats without tire pressure sensors - federal regulation. I am not sure that the run flats even come in the tire size for the Z06. I guess if one gets the run flat tire, a TPS system can be activated to be legal. Tried to purchase the plug kit from Napa from the part number listed in post on this thread, but it was not valid. Guess I'll get one from Checker (O'Reilly) plus a jack.

There are a whole lotta other things you can worry about... a flat tire is one of the last.

That said; I have the pump (which I have used), I have the spray filler goop, (which I have used) and I have tire plugs, (which I have also used)-- they can all work depending on your situation. I also carry a small 4 x 4 to place my jack on.

I have also driven quite far on a flat (or almost completely flat) tire. You can find tires that aren't so damn expensive if you know where to look. You can also fit a spare in the trunk if you are really worried about it.

Don't believe me? I've done it.

You can also drive down the road wondering if you might break a valve spring...

Anymore, I say turn up the stereo and just drive. Chances are, you will get where you are going without incident.... most of the time.
