It rains here in Virginia. Daily driver and it hasn't seen soap in weeks. It's only a car. Not like it takes anything special to wash it. Sorry if I sound like an a-hole. I'm not picking on you but there is nothing special about these cars. I have an 04 six speed coupe and bought mine because it was affordable and gets decent gas mileage. I love and enjoy my car but I don't like the Corvette attitude that most owners have. Guess I'm not a real Corvette guy. I read some of these post and my head spins. C5's are a $15-20K car. People pay more for a new Hyundia everyday. Anyone can buy one, and they are not hard to find. I have restored 69 Chevelle SS than can't be replaced easily. It stays in the garage and doesn't usually see rain. My C5 sits in the driveway and sees rain and has even seen snow. I actually had another C5 owner say something to me for parking it between two other cars at the store. He parked out in the middle of the lot and took up two spaces and acted like I was the moron. Love my car and respect the passion others have but come on guys. IT'S JUST A CAR!

Mine is a daily driver, so after a week's worth of pollen or dust and dirt, it gets a bath every Friday evening or Saturday morning. I used to use Zaino Z7 Car wash but concentrated or not, their bottles were too small so I switched to Mequire's car wash. It works just as well and is a lot cheaper for a 2 liter jug. And I can get it locally.

I still use Zaino Z5 polish and detailers.

In the beginning of Spring, I do a full detail.

I start with a Dawn wash to clean off the old wax/contaminants. I then claybar the car, followed by a polish and then a wax with Meguiars #26. I then just wash with Meguiars Gold Class once or twice a month until the middle of fall when I redo the process.

I also use a detail spray to maintain the car inbetween washes.

Drive it to the coin car wash. $2.50 for 4 minutes. I try to fit it all in the 4 minutes to save a buck. I skip the useless stuff like pre rinse and wax.

Then I have that hand held rubber thing that wipes it off. Tire wet the tires and clean the wheels with the small white kitchen type towel.

It's just a car...
If it's just a car why don't you drive the Chevelle some days.
Isn't that like asking why doesn't everyone drive the a Honda Accord since it's rated the most reliable vehicle? Or why some people drive red vs black cars? Totally closed minded response, the answer is simple he wants to drive the Vette, because it's his choice to make... THE END

There is always going to be a difference between how a garage queen is treated and how a daily driver is treated, some people like to look at their car and some people like to actually drive them, while some hover in the middle...

You can't realistically maintain anywhere near the level of detail on a real used DD as you can on a sunny day weekend warrior garage queen, it would be a stupid waste of time...

As a DD, during the cold winter months, I drop a few bucks in the high pressure hand car washes and give it a quick once over every few days...

For the summer, I have an cheap pressure sprayer with a G-Clean upstream soap injector, total price under $100 and it gets a quick once over every week or so in the driveway to keep the grime at bay... A detail and wax here and there as time permits...

I use a wash bay and spray washer at work. Doesn't cost me anything and does a good job. I then finish detailing the car at home.

If you can't see the difference between a "restored 69 Chevelle SS", a garage queen C5 vs. a DD driver C5 then there really isnt any point...

Yeah....this thread got a wee bit off course I would say

I just use Meguiars purple car wash soap and a soft brush on a handle....the kind with the frayed ends....very gentle...rinse well and dry with a chamois. I'm behind on the wax but the last one with Turtle Wax's blend of carnauba and synthetic is still holding up well.

The finish on the C5 is remarkably durable....thanks GM!!

With a COLD car, I start with the wheels & wheel wells. I like car wash soap, some use a good wheel cleaner, working on all 4 wheels first, then one at a time, with a wash mit, wash each tire & wheel well area. Rinse all areas well. Rinse out the bucket, don't re-use this soap, towels or sponge! Then using the 2 bucket method, one with clean fresh water & a grit guard, the other is car wash soap. Use a grout sponge from Homie Depot, dip it into the soap, wash a section of your wet car, then dip the sponge in the clean water, squeeze out the dirt, back to the soap etc. Don't drop the sponge, if so, use another one, and clean the dropped sponge later, it will take some time to get all the dirt out. Before the soap dries, leave the sponge in the fresh water, and rinse as needed. Start at the top, work your way down. When done, remove your spray nozzle, and flood the surface with a sheet of water, which will leave less water on your car to dry off.

Using a good pva or large microfiber drying towel, start at the top, wheels & tires last. Make sure all tags have been removed from your towels, they scratch! I use my used/washed microfiber towels on the wheels & tires. Open all doors, fuel door, hood & trunk, dry the jambs and the edges of the windows. I like to wipe off under the hood too, with the same towels I use for the wheels & tires.

Then I take it for a quick drive down the street, pull it into the garage & dry it off again, to get all the water spots. Rinse & dry out the buckets after cleaning the sponge(s), then set the dirty towels aside for washing. Clean the windows, inside & out, and you are done. This is a great time to check/adjust your tire pressures & fluid levels, then drive & enjoy!

I have wanted a Vette since I was 12 years old so it gets washed twice a week. I use Turtle wax car wash with a wash mitt. She gets waxed with #26 yellow wax every 2 weeks. My Vette is very nice !!

To many of the folks on the forum, it's not the market value of the car that determines their passion for the car. For you it might be - to each his own. I don't think the other response that this indicates little passion for the car was closed minded. The quoted statements speak for themselves.

Same reason I'm a member of a forum related to just about every vehicle I have, it makes it easier to source information about that specific vehicle...

I'm enthusiastic about my Vette, I drive it every day rain, snow, sleet, or even those sunny days...

I live a block off the Atlantic ocean, so my car gets washed about every 2-3 days. I use a Mr. Clean Autodry Carwash with a mitt and dry with a synthetic chamois.
