Default What next??

Hello everyone. Just installed a Vortex Rammer intake seems to work just fine. I cant decide what to do next. Headers or 3.42 gears. The car has 2.73. The 2.73s are nice on the highway and get good gas mileage. Which is the best bang for the buck? I am guessing the headers would give me around 3 tenths and so would the gears.

I vote 3.42's. It will feel alot better than headers if you ask me. Good luck with the pick.

The shop said that the 2.73 case can have a problem with installing 3.42 gears. He recommended getting a 3.42 rear end from a 6 speed. Anyone ever heard of this?

Yes alot of guys buy 6 speed rears and put them in theres. And I vote for 3:42's. You'll feel it more than headers. Good luck with your choice!

I'd probably replace the rear gears too - you'll notice a lot of improvement with the 3.42s over the 2.73s.

Well if it goes 13 flat then its for sure it will do 12.99 LOL !! 13 flat sounds good. I already have the vortex rammer. It pulls a little harder on the top end. I am presently checking my gas mileage it seems to be a little better since the rammer install. This rammer seems to be similar in its intent to the fast toys ram air for f bodies.(had 2 of those). Most are saying gears. Some are saying headers, well I guess I will do both!! Maybe later this year. Thanks I needed a plan!!

I would do the gears first - Best and cheapest bang for your $$ all the way

3.42's was one of the best mods I ever did. Here is a chart on the different RPM levels between gears: Your MPG will differ only slightly

Thanks,Matt

The wheel spin is what I am concerned about. I dont want it to spin I am running pesky run flats. I was thinking with the headers it would not spin so bad, as headers wont improve the launch with a stock converter. They will kick in around 3000 rpm or so.

I agree about the headers not improving the launch much, But the seat of the pants gain is amaizing with gears. Allot of forum members just do gear swap without stall. Check out Mike Mercrurys posts I think you will be Impressed As I was.
