It Never gets old

I wave at all generation vettes when we cross paths. When I had my C3 (about 10 yrs ago) all vettes I passed would wave too.
I have yet to see two motorcycles pass that didn't wave to each other.
To me it is a friendly greeting to all those who share the same love for the same type of vehicle.

I was driving home this afternoon on a 2 lane highway and saw a guy up ahead mowing... he kept mowing when the cars in front passed, but when he saw mine, he stopped mowing, smiled and as soon as I passed, he started mowing again just before the Pontiac Grand Am behind me a few lengths back reached him. I think she might have a little grass in her Grand Am's grill now.

Must be the stripe!
In Socal expensive cars are a dime a dozen though. You go down to the local sandwich stop down the street from me and if there isn't an M5, E63 AMG, and Bentley parked out in front I would think it was weird.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Having said that, I truely love seeing children wave and tohear them say nice car. It induces a little nostalgia and excitement for making the little guy's day. Its different than when an adult compliments your car because you know the children have no sense of responsibility or to put it a better way, any commitments. There is nothing holding them back from getting their dream car which may not be the case for an adult for any variety of reasons.Thats why it feels a little more special when I see the look of awe in a little kid's face. Not only have I made his day,but he has mad mine!
I guess that "logically" and "realistically" a Corvette is "just a car" - at least that is all they are to an insurance company or a bank. But I never bought ANY of my Corvettes as a sane or logical decision, it was always an "emotional" one.
How many "cars" do people run out and spend thousands of dollars upgrading immediately after they buy them "new"!
How many "cars" have so many companies that build only after market parts for and produce dedicated magazines around them.
How many "cars" do people buy for that much money and then never drive them?
How many "cars" have Forums with this kind of participation?
How many "cars" do you just not feel right driving if there is a speck of dirt on them?
The list goes on... but even when people search for a "used" Vette - look at the pain they go through trying to locate on the is just the right color with just the right options and then pay above book value for!
No... the Corvette is anything but "just a car"!

As if it wasn't cool enough that I was driving my very first Vette home on a cross-country trip from MI to TX with the wife, we stopped for just a minute in Oklahoma at a fast food joint. As I came out the people in the car next to me said the car was awesome and asked me if I would switch cars with them. I laughed and said "no".
Never heard that about my Grand Prix. Wonder why...

Just last week, I was at the gas station, in my C5. An older Chinese gentleman getting gas next to me, came over. He said (while smiling like a kid looking at my car), " is this a Ferrari?"
I asked him how he knew about a Ferrari? (note: I'm married to a Chinese girl, so I know many of these folks. Older Chinese folks grew up under Mao's Cultural Revolution, and in a different world than most of us can even imagine, and they know nothing about sports cars, for the most part.)
Anyway, this nice older man, said; 'my son has one of these. he a doctor" he proclaimed proudly.
I chatted with him, for several minutes and told him this was America's Sports Car, Corvette C5. He didn't care about the difference, until I told him my C5 was 11 (almost 12) years old. He looked at me, like I'd lost my mind. I actually didn't think he believed me, so I reached inside, grabbed the owners manual, and showed him. He was amazed, to be sure. For several minutes as we chatted, he walked around the car, looking at it from every angle, and never stopped smiling as we talked. Like a kid...
So, once again, C5 Corvette evokes emotion and respect from others, that no ordinary car usually does.
It is cool, and sometimes fun, to discuss my C5 with others, in this way. I always try to leave them wishing they had one, too!!!

The funny thing is that I started this thread four years ago and now , 4 years later.. Nothing has changed with the amount of compliments I still get or the interest and attention it still draws. I have recently been seriously offered an insane amount of money from two different people for a car that is 16 years old and has 100,000 miles on it.
Thanks again for renewing the interest in this thread.

It doesn't take much to bring these cars into the new technology age.
One thing I've found interesting though... While women seem to drool over my Corvette, the men don't seem to notice my Vette, but if I'm in my Mustang... that's when the men stare, but that may also be because the Mustang's the only one camming it's butt off.
In fact, since I got the C5 a month and a half ago, I've got neighbors talking to me that have never said a word to me in the 4 years that I've been there.

This weekend, with my car two feet in the air while I was working underneath it, several of the "regulars" stopped to chat, and two different times, people who were driving by stopped to look at my car. I had never seen them before in my life. This is not really an unusual circumstance. One time I caught a Mom with a boy about ten years old posing in front of my car taking pictures because he loved it so much. He had the biggest smile on his face as I let him sit in the drivers seat and his mom take his picture. So not only do I get lots of compliments on my car, I finally get to meet many of my neighbors after living here for nearly 30 years.

The amazing thing and the point of this thread is that this C5 design is so timeless that even 15 years later, and 100,000 miles plus still brings that interest to many people.. You would be hard pressed to find another car that is this old by design to be accused of being New.
Not only do the comments never get old... neither does this timeless design... I don't know of another design team, that was ever able to deliver such a masterpiece of timeless design. The C5 was a clean sheet of paper, without any influence from another design.

mine is not a garage queen either.. with 80,000 miles on it, It really doesnt qualify, its been in the rain many times.. a few times in snow,, and alot of times in muddy paddocks where my daughter keeps her horses. I drive it and park it anywhere, but I do park smart and thats not out in the boonies...I try to keep as low a profile as possible, keeping it next to other nice cars that are well kept. I always park where the most foot traffic is, so no one will be tempted to do something stupid.. because most people do things under the cloak of being a coward where no one can see them

Mine is a over 123,000 and still gets compliments. You are on it from the title, It Never Gets Old. I'm not one to take compliments well, so I just tell them, "Thank You." The compliments are a product of wanting something for 24 years, (from the time I was 14 till I was 38), and still loving it even after owning it 11 years.
to all who have wanted something badly and worked hard to fulfill their dreams. It doesn't matter if it was a C1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or the Red Rider BB gun you didn't get as a kid because your parents thought you would shoot your eye out, now you own a Barrett .50 to go along with your Red Rider.

,,,,,,gives me another reason to love corvettes
