Over on parts for sale, there are some OEM magnesium wheels that the seller had powder coated black. Given the unique color of the mag wheel, it sort of reminded me of the athlete that won a gold medal and was so proud of it he had it bronzed.
They are pretty light, so they are a good choice for those that look at that kind of thing. They also damage easy, so they may have been marked up and a repair and powder coat may have been the easiest way to correct.
I have seen them polished :-)
(this is te spot that would normally hold the pic of the polished mag wheels if Photobucket wasn't down)
Well anyway, I like chrome, when I saw the Mag wheels polished they looked great (looked like chrome). I would consider getting a set if I ever saw them somewhere.
So the mage wheels had more going for them than just a unique finish.
Edit : ah photobucket back up, this is what they look like polished Id be all over these if I could find em.

i dont know why but im not a huge fan of black wheels i guess in my head i just figure its gonna just be a fad like those spinning rims remember how horrible those where uggggghhhhh
I have a set of magnesiums that are also out for powder coating. The wheels make great sense as they are very light and are very good looking IMO. I just didn't like the bronze color, and am going with a lighter shade. As far as ruining the value goes, $600 for a $3000 set of wheels is about as rock bottom as you're going to get.
Now, if you have a completely original car and these are on your RPO list, then it might behoove you to keep them original. Mine were purchased after the fact so I feel I can do whatever the hell I want with them.
Well,,talk about conflicted!! Originally agreed with the OP,,,really agree with MaddChopper,,not at all a fancier of black wheels,,and the "spinners"were an abomination for the car world!! ThenC5vetteguy makes sense too!!! Guess it boils down to it's your car,,do what YOU want!! For me I do like the unique color and look of the original maggies,,and IF they were in good condition,,I would probably leave them as is,,,,but that's me!!
I am failing to see the funny? I like the shape of the wheels but dont like the color so I would think they would be nice powdercoated another color. If only they were made in big boy sizes..
Mine were damaged and the repair place couldn't match the original color in powder coat. They tried and it was more of an antique brass dark color.
I like the color enough I haven't run out and had them repainted.
They're on my RPO but I don't much care about that.
Had they not been damaged I wouldn't have repainted them and if they did repaint them the same I would have been happy with it.
Was more irritated that I lost the little Magnesium sticker.

I agree with c5vetteguy,Chris@EastCoastSupercharging, &Glenn.
I got a set of Mag rims 2 years ago for $600 because I had wagons,
I liked the style, Loved the weight, and could tolerate the color,Wish
they were available in z06 sizes, and IMO,apart from original option,
green body color vettes and retentives JK,Mag wheels should be
polished or powder coated any other color.
