driving in the vert
Any of you guys use a cockpit cover on your vert?
I've been looking at them and would take advice from any experienced user.
It is made by Ferguson and I got it at Ecklers. I had a similar product for my '93 coupe which had the transparent roof. So it was a requirement when I got the vert, just as it was for the coupe.
I keep it stowed in the center bin and it takes less than 2 minutes to put it on. The trick is in the folds. In the picture it was brand new so it looks a little funky coming right out of the packaging. I took the pictures after I put it on to see how it went on differently from the coupe style. The coupe style slipped around the edge of the glass hatch then you closed it down, the vert does something similar in that it can be slipped, and is designed so, under the rear of the top. With the top unfastened you simply lift it up a bit on the rear and slip it under. When installed that way it will survive some of Florida's worst thunderstorms. However, for normal days or 99.9% of the time I use it, I just lay it across the back. I have never lifted the rear of the top and slipped it under. It stays in place quite well with just the front and side fasten points. The weight seems to keep it in place along the rear. It even survived a few storms like that when I couldn't get out to the car quick enough. Of course then it's wet and has to be dried off when I get home. So come our monsoon season I pay attention to the afternoon thunderstorms and run out to take it off before hand.
It's soft denim underneath and a vinyl canvas on the outside. I clean it by laying it inside on the floor and spray it with Simple Green and wipe it clean with paper towels. Takes about 5 minutes to clean.
Since it requires the top to be up, this style won't work with the top down. At least I've never tried that.
For my Tampa colleague, OMG the pollen over here in the central part of the state is horrible right now. Getting ready now to go give it a bath as it is covered in a green film of pollen. So I don't leave the top down until this dang pollen has run its course.
Here's a couple more images of how it fastens in the front and how the rear looks just laying in place:

Just from experience, I'm figuring in the summer I'll only have the top up about 1/4 of the time, so I'm a little torn on whether to get a "top up" or "top down" one.
Maybe one of each since they are small and not that expensive.
Thanks,
G.

Riding with the top down is a great experience. Haven't owned a vert for more than 36 years, but I still remember the feeling.
