You might have to use a thicker piece of sheet metal or one that has been hardened to prevent the weight of the unit from causing it to "bob" up and down.

I would think that if you set the unit more forward you should not have any trouble. Again, when I closed the gap between the two "arms" it put more tension on the mount causing it to "grip" the dash firmer. I don't have any bobbing issues.

All you can do is try.
