Default Leaking Differential

Have a 2000 cpe-was going to have fluid changed, dealer would not do because the differential cover seal on drivers side was leaking. He topped off lube and called me about it. Estimate cost was $525.00. Is this a fair price? Anyone have a reputable Corvette Shop on SW side of Chicago they would recommend to do the work?

I had mine done by my dealer for $400 (2 years ago) which I think was a very good price. I've seen posts here where some folks have been quoted as high as a couple thousand but I think a lot of times they're under warranty and the stealer is just charging more as a result. $525 doesn't seem too outrageous to me.

Hi There;
I would wipe the cover clean & give each bolt 1/4 of a turn tight. Then keep a watchful eye on it.Sometimes they loosen up just enough to leak. If you catch it before dirt gets inside maybe you can save $525. worth a try.

I did mine in the driveway and saved alot of cash! I removed the cradle and did a very good cleaning. There was a post on here that I followed and was a great learning experience. I would do it all over again!

Mine leaks a little. I just change the fluid often. No biggie. I cant see paying somebody that much money to fix a little leak

Neighbor and I did mine in about 3.5 hours. As noted, there are a couple links that show you step by step how to does this. If you are a 2.5 or higher on the 1-5 scale of mechanical ability, go ahead. There's a 'leaky butt' posting today asking about what sealant to use. Differing opinions for sure.
