Default satilite radio ant.

My dad is putting a new Kenwood recv w/ gps in his 2004 convert. He was wondering is anyone has any pics of the ant. installed on the car. He really doesn't want both antennas on the car. Does anyone have this setup, if so how do you like it?

Thanks Sean (who will one day have his own Vette, and stop living through his father)

Some have had luck just tucking in up under the dash pad.

I considered attaching mine to the bottom (hidden) of the valance behind the seats. In the end I ran it back to the rear, made an "L" bracket to create a small platform for it, and mounted it inside the rear bumper behind a taillight on the drivers side.
It works really well there. (but I didnt' take any photos of it).

BTW that also where I mounted the XM antenna, also with very good results.

Oh, and I ran the backup camera at the same time.....

I recently installed a Kenwood in the wife's coupe but with HD radio, not satellite. I have XM/Sirius in my Hummer but have cancelled it since I don't listen to it enough to make it worthwhile. Here's my install.

Love the Kenwood though.

I put my antenna up on the dash by the windshield on the passenger side. Works great.

I treid installing my sirius radio in my convertable and it would not work at all. I figured with the top down it would be great. I know it makes no sense at all but after installing 2 times i give up. Its work as soon as it out of the vette no problem

I've done a couple of them. Had good luck putting it on top of the 3rd brake light in the back. Just a bit of silicone to stick it there reaching through the tail light hole.

I removed the A Pillar cover on the drivers side. Mounted the antenna at the base of the A Pillar with a little clear silicone adhesive. Put the cover back on and it was out of sight and has worked great for the past 3 or 4 years. Very easy install and only took about 5 minutes.

thanks for the replies. The mounted both ant. uder the dash near the pillars. Receiver looks good and sounds great, it really woke up the Bose speakers. I talked him into putting a sub into it as well, but that will be a little later down the line..

Install the ant. behind the tail lights on the drivers side. It will sit right on the frame and it wont move. I put my sat. ant. and nav. ant. right next too one another. Very simple and no modifaction at all. Good luck!!

I installed my GPS antenna behind one of the rear tail lights. There's about 6-8 inches of space with columns. As you can see in the pics, I used an existing nut and mounted the antenna on a couple of angle brackets. Works awesome!

I tried this location and got almost no signal on my Sirius so I went back to my under the rear deck location and that works pretty well.

I've experimented with several different positions on the dash. Some are better than others, but none are all that great. Lots of signal loss when traveling down roads with tall trees on both sides.
I just looked at the area behind the tail lights and discovered that there is a steel cross member back there. I've thought of trying to mount it either there or on a bracket as shown above. The only thing that I haven't figured out about this installation is how to run the antenna lead from behind the bumper back into the car. Would appreciate any help.

I have mine mounted under the dash right above the radio where I have read some place them. It woks about 80% of the time w/o cutting out maybe a little less. I really need to move it to the back but am lazy.

I put mine up on the dash. Not really happy with it. It cut's out quite a bit. After reading this, I think I'll move it.

If using the rear bumper location, mount the antenna as high and close to the top as possible. I used an L bracket designed for decking ans siliconed sealed the L to the back of the tub. Then I drilled a hole the size of the antenna end through the tub. Passed the antenna wire through the hole and down the passenger side under the carpet. I just sealed the hole on both sides with duct tape.

Mounted my Sirius antenna as shown in the picture in post 12.

Pull liner away from the rear cargo area tub inside the car. Drill a small hole (big enough for the radio side antenna plug to fit through from the inner rub into the rear exterior behind the tail lamps. Its a plastic tub so drilling will be easy. Run the antenna wire from the tail lamp area into the rear cargo section, up the passenger side of the cargo area, into the main passenger compartment , tuck the antenna wire under the floor carpet moulding then up under the dash to the center console and radio. Sounds like a lot of trouble, but once you look at it, the project is a snap.

Thanks for the fast responses from both of you. I'm guessing that using a bracket is preferred to the frame crossmember because the added height will improve reception?
